Classic. Hitboxes existed long before Modern controls became a thing.

Hitbox is an arcade stick, with (usually) 8 buttons, just like most arcade sticks. So it maps better to Classic controls, as you have all six buttons (plus two more) for your three each of P and K. You can play Modern on it, of course.

The difference is that the stick itself is now four buttons. Classic hitbox is jump at bottom, where either thumb can hit it - similar placement to keyboard spacebar (but is usually a button, not a bar). You can also get WASD / cursor key type arrangements too, but I firmly believe thumb for jump = faster and better for e.g. down up charge motions and 360s for SPDs (or 720s for Gief L3).

Buttons are quicker to hit than it is to move stick. Moving to opposite on stick = go through neutral, not so for buttons.

The purpose of a hitbox is to relieve stress to your wrist and offer a more comfortable way to play. Has nothing to do with classic vs modern. I find that they are incredibly awkward to learn on a game like Street Fighter, but my hitbox feels incredibly natural for games that emphasize tapping, such as Soul Blade/Soul Calibur. If you're playing a shoto, you might have a long learning period with a hitbox because you're going to be learning new inputs and "shortcuts" for certain moves. But if you're playing a charge character you'll generally have an easier time. If you are unsure of you should get one,

I highly recommend playing on keyboard for a little bit because it's a very similar experience. This way you can get a general feel for the setup without wasting money.

Controllers are controllers, pick whatever input mode you want. I play M on a hitbox.

You're welcome. Hitboxes make certain inputs easier for some people, in particular 360's and 720's. But, like I said, it's going to take the same amount of practice to get good at it as it would with a standard gamepad. You're always going to be more comfortable with the controller you have the most hours in using.

Use it for classic. I switched to a hitbox for the first time to play SF6. It's not hard to pick up. The hardest part is actually slowing down the inputs because you can do them too fast. ♥♥♥♥ like a 3 on DP wont register if you just lightning speed the input. You gotta train yourself to slow down. So it's almost like you have to learn timing twice. Once for the controller and another for the game itself. I'm almost 20 hours in and it's finally slowing down a little for me.

This is how I view it lol... I am maybe just uncivilised on the finer details of hitbox vs keyboard though haha.

its literally the same concept just with less and bigger buttons so the ergonomy is much better but at the end of the day people got used to play on keyboard too so the only real benefit is when you want to play on consoles too from time to time since keyboards dont work there.
