Using Animaze with Omegle?
Hello! I was wondering if there's any way that I can use the Animaze Virtual Camera with Omegle. Does anyone know how to do this? I've tried just about everything I can find (clearing browsing cache, using a browser besides Chrome, etc.), but still no dice. It seems to work fine with any other site that I can go to to use it, but Omegle just does not want to work with it for some reason. If anyone knows a fix for this, please do let me know. Thanks!

Hello Cade.

The issue is most likely related to access rules to the webcam driver that your browser chooses to source for Omegle. We have used the Animaze webcam driver with Omegle in the past so we know it can be done, but care needs to be paid to the webcam settings.

There are three things that you need to take into account:

1. On windows, at OS level, there is a rule meant to help with your privacy :
only one app can access a given webcam device at a given time. If a webcam is already in use by an app, a second app cannot use it, until the first app is closed. This is -we assume- built this way to protect against hackers spying on people via webcams.
This is true for both physical and virtual webcams, and there are third-party apps such as ManyCam that are built specifically to help users navigate around this limitation.

So when you start Omegle, make sure that the output virtual webcam, the one you want to use in Omegle, is not already being used by another app.

2. Some apps, especially many web apps, don't have a bespoke webcam selector option, they only use the "Default windows webcam" or some webcam that is hard-coded. In some cases, they correctly pick the webcam preferences from the web browser settings, but not always.

The default windows webcam is not as straightforward to set as it should be ( in theory it can be set via the control panel, but in reality, we've learned that even though there are a lot of articles on how to do that,, after the latest windows updates, not all of them work great.

Windows by default sets as " default webcam" the most recent installed webcam, so a really roundabout way to set the default webcam, is to uninstall / restart/reinstall the driver on the webcam that you want to be the " Windows Default"

3. Both Security software and Windows settings have their own rules around which software they allow to access which webcams. If you weren't paying close attention to those popups asking you " Do you want to let Omegle/web browser access Animaze webcam", and the answer was assumed to be " NO", then that might be what is blocking Omegle's access to the Animaze virtual webcam. You might need to dig in the Windows webcam rules, or security software webcam rules, and change that " NO" to a "YES".

In closing, there are alternate virtual webcams that can help you get a video feed out of animaze and to chat software, other than the stock Animaze webcam driver.
You could pipe the animaze avatar video through OBS via direct window capture and use the OBS virtual webcam driver, or use third-party software such as ManyCam. Using that as an alternative might help you debug what the problem was.
