The key to the rifle shot was talking to the assistant (Ms Larren?) where you conclude that the shot could only come from one of the buildings to the right of the body, and since one is 300m away, it leaves only the Hotel as the only option.
The bartender turned off the vehicle ID machine. This becomes clear because she stood in for the guard at 10pm for 15 minutes, and according to the vehicle ID system it stopped recording new cars after 10:04pm, but the pianist saw a vehicle at 10:10pm, which means that it was turned off between 10:04pm and 10:10pm, exactly when the bartender was there.
You do get the info that the assassin has red hair and a red beard, but if you help Ed (the elderly boat owner) he'll tell you that the suspects "hat" (wig) fell off as he was stealing the boat, leaving him bald. Later, when you find the stolen boat, you see red beard hair in the sink in the boat, so you can conclude he was both bald and clean shaven. You get the info on him having a cut on his arm from both the cut glass in the hotel, but also if you promise not to report the bartender for helping the assassin (she didn't know what he was doing), she calls and tells you outright that he had a wound on his arm. You also learn that he ditched the viola case, and that he finished drinking his whiskey.
For instance (full game spoilers ahead): If you don't solve the Hotel case, you don't get the Canal level at all, where you have a first chance to meet Ed and get the boat ID right, which will grant you access to the harbor in the next area. You have a second shot at talking to Ed if you manage to get access to the pier by helping Quinn, and only if you help him then, you'll get the info about the wig. If you don't have that, you fail the Sheet on the sniper's appearance, which leads to the bloody shootout in the 1st act finale. As a result, you can't interrogate Boyt and Gonzalez, which makes it harder to get some stuff the second act right. This ensures that even your early actions in the game have some bearing over its ending, but it's also super punishing.
I identified Dyson as the liberty movement boss. Managed to jail ther sniper and Gonzalez (no victims). Let Zora use my account not garys. Prevented the bombing of the church but Moore where taken by the group of zora. Cox was arrested when he shoot on my partner. Got every sheet correct. Decided not to involve CDI in the final confrontation but threatened saito with a gun to hand over the data to William. Before, I leaked the whole thing to the journalist. In the end I was identiefied as source of the leak and fired, dyson is in Jail but for how long? The politicians and The minister of Justice (Emilia) where blamed and got their punishment for the Sektor II incident 40 years ago. Again together with my Ex (and new) wife and my surviving daughter.
So I think that where the most important things to say :-)
Nice! That's one of the endings we internally call "good", meaning everybody's alive in the end, which (in a boiled down way) happens when you manage to obtain the data and make Zora turn on her peers.
Some aspects we don't view as good or bad, e.g. whether Neil and Cat get back together or whether Neil leaked the data or if he got fired from the CDI or came clean and asked for their help at the end.
2nd run went much better, all summoned on the roof and no more life time wasted on working for a treacherous state. Turns out one wrong answer and the boldness to plaster the whole solar system with my lies did improve my life drastically. :)
I wonder what leaning more to Zora's side would bring
I also managed to get the "good" ending as the developers put it. I imprissoned Dyson, saved Neil's daughter, made everything public and got a small redemption for Zora. Yes, I got fired and now the system seems to be gearing up for war, but I feel it was the right thing to do.
I do wonder what would have happened if I had sided with the CDI to save the daughter but it seems that the data would have remained buried that way, and I'm not a fan of that.
Overal a great experience and I'm eager to see if the developers make another game after this.
Looking forward to the team's next game.
Second run: worst ending, did everything wrong. Didn't like it :>
But what I want to say, regardless of the ending, because it always happens: I love the part when the "Showdown" music track changes softly to Catherine's theme. Kudos, Mjeno. You are the composer, right? That's beautiful.
Yeah, I'm the composer (among other things). Thank you for your kind words! I'm happy you recognized it as Cat's theme.
Incredible game, my boyfriend watched and now wants to play, too, just to beat me at it and to see what story he will create. Super nice story mechanics.
Glad to hear even those of you who didn't get the best endings still enjoyed the game!
