Shattered Horizon didn't "just die". They made poor design decisions that drove the player base away. The reality is, they could have left it as it shipped and probably still have people playing today.
It was also a benchmark because it was made by a benchmark company, Futuremark, who made 3DMark. It was a surprising release and i'm not sure they expected it to be as big as it was.
Pretty much sums up the entitlement that many gamers feel these days. Imagine walking into any other business, and demanding products or services for free..lol...you'll get laughed at, like you are here..
Less entitlement and more the fact that it's very hard to build and keep a playerbase for a unknown multiplayer PvP game so you want to keep the barrier of entry as low as possible.
isn't there a time limit how long chinese people are allowed to play online daily/weekly ?
So a battle pass grind isn´t a very clever business model for a huge part of player base?
play call of duty then
I don't love F2P to be honest, but it does remove barrier to entry. I loathe games that don't respect players time, like paid games that force "progression" on you, gated by big grind. I think some players also want or need constant drip of new pixels and battle pass as a reason to play.
2 years of development time along with staff salaries is nothing to you? Glad to see you have a working understanding of supply, demand and the monetary system in general...
People push for F2P in games that have low player bases because that can keep a game alive. More people are likely to hop on and give it a shot if it's free. Of course, going f2p comes with a host of other problems, so it's definitely a tradeoff.
True but f2p adds a ton of cheaters. Still i do wish they would add bots in this game so you could just chill in space.
If you're up to pay for the game then buy it, support and enjoy. If it dies then it dies, that'd be unfortunate but at least you'd have supported something different. It's all about what you do with your money, if you want something new and interesting then buy new and interesting things.
