Ah you're talking about something else than I am.
I'm talking about the ambush spots where only butterflies spawn as enemies in the ambush location. A place where you could fight butterflies over and over again to farm EXP until you ran out of morale to ambush.
You're talking about the random locations on the map where you sometimes see 1 butterfly and are given an option to kill it or touch it to teleport out. Yeah those random spots still exist in revisted, but the ambush spots don't from what I saw.
The flipped side of course is that now there's those 3 skull monster spawns which do give a lot of exp even though you're fighting 3 encounters in a row.
EDIT: What they're talking about here for those that don't know, is that in the original game there were secret areas with the Butterfly plants that would spawn when you did an ambush. They were worth a TON of exp to camp them over and over, it was how you leveled up your Dual Classing. You could only beat them though with a Ninja in party because when they would Hide and use Assassination it would one shot kill them. Otherwise you could only do 1 point of damage to them. I believe Soul Blast also worked but didn't insta kill them like that.
Getting 3 of them during an Ambush would net upwards of 60k exp.
One thing it was really good for was the late game tower where you finish off the Hades Boss. There was one camping spot up there for them in the Lightning field. Generally you were about 27th-28th level by that time in whatever class your teams were currently leveling up.
So you'd decide on the final classes you wanted in your party for the last battle and go to the Butterfly Nest and camp them after multiclassing back to 14th ot 15th and it was around 20k per Butterfly plant. While getting a 3 spawn for 60k was kind of a drop in the bucket for a 29th level character, for a 14th level character it was HUGE. And you'd be able to level up their final job in no time at all.
By that time too if you'd killed off all the Legacy monsters and gotten all the crystals you'd be at around 70-75 Morale. So you could camp them over and over if you had previously multiclassed to Dancer and used Sword Song to restore morale. First time for 5 second for 10 morale, up to like costing 65-70 morale for an ambush but you had it at that time and could keep restoring your Morale with Sword Song.
Late game hard grind with CheatEngine's Speedhack feature.
Personally I just grind. Never found it that slow if you fast apply through everything. Just make sure you have samurais so you can slash through big packs quickly.
Probably best XP if you're in the Ice/Underwater/Storms phase is the Mausoleum of Ice, the paralyze penalty is something you can just ignore now compared to straight-up blocking before, and some of the packs give 20-30k XP. Storms is also decent, though I've never liked the map.
Underwater is still annoying and kind of a step down from Ice/Storms.
I just did it so I can tell you. After you kill a certain boss (witch/rabbit) in Poisonville (tm), the elder will talk to you in town and tell you to go meet him. When you do you get a key to access the mirror in Poisonville.
Personally I went through Poisonville and Underwater and then did Storms before doing Ice. Makes it a lot easier that way, since by that time you can just roll over the mobs in Ice with fast apply.
