Sometimes, being too lore-friendly is not ideal for gameplay balance.
It matters a great deal.
There are seven unique ways to allocate 6 points between the three stats (with at least one point in each stat).
If Casey Jones had been given the last combination, then we would have had all seven combinations to choose from.
While giving Casey Jones only 1 point in power seems questionable, it can be justified on the grounds that he's a human and is not going to be as powerful as a mutant character.
Plus, since we now know that 7 total stat points is possible within this universe, it now makes the decisions for some of the other characters seem questionable.
For example, the idea of Donatello having only a one in speed made sense when we though we were limited to six stars total and the characters all had to be balanced stat-wise. Now that that is no longer the case, it would make far more sense for Donatello to have a two in speed (bringing his total seven as well).
There's now strong arguments to be made that Raphael should be brought to 3 speed, that Splinter should be brought up to 2 speed and Leo up to 3 power. You could even make the case the Mikey should have his range brought up to 2; nunchucks have longer range than sais.
That would put that stats at:
Raph: 1R, 3S, 3P
Mike: 2R, 3S, 2P
Don: 3R, 2S, 2P
Leo: 2R, 2S, 3P
Splinter: 2R, 2S, 3P
Casey: 3R, 2S, 2P
April: 2R, 3S, 1P
Leo and Splinter would be repeats, but that's preferable to having one character make two other characters useless. Don and Casey would also be repeats, but I think that's actually justifiable since Don was that character that everyone would fight over in the arcade games.
Or you could instead allocate Splinter's stats as 3R, 1S, 3P. That would also make sense and avoid a repeated combination.
And, you could even increase April's range to 3 by giving her different weapons.
The point is that Casey Jones having 7 points total throws the rest of the game's universe out of balance.
Alright. If it's really not a big deal for you then let's give 50 Range, 50 Speed and 50 Power to all the characters. You'll see if stats don't matter in a balance point of view.
1. Sure, if it was a really big number like 50, then it would matter. You successfully described a hypothetical situation in which this would be a big deal. I don't see how that helps you, but good job.
2. If I had to guess, the figures you're talking about are most likely just a reference for new players who just want a vague idea of "who's fast, who's strong" etc when they're about to hop into the game for the first time. The actual stats that govern a character's balance in combat would be way more complicated than 3 statistics with a very simple value displayed beside them. What you're looking at is the visual aid for the player, not the raw variables in the game's code.
3. The characters in this game supposedly all have different moves and stuff, which I'm sure also plays into the balancing act.
I thought 6 stars was a good number to show strong parts of each, but with 7 its harder now.
Also in that rescuepalooza fan game, he was the best character out of like a 30+ character roster so I'm expecting him to be super OP.
Also I don't think he's selectable right out of the gate, he's definitely a hidden unlockable character so you probably have to complete like 70% of the game before even being able to unlock him.
I watched a video on IGN and they said only Splinter, April and the 4 turtles are selectable from a fresh new game start... so yeah... :)
I'm expecting him to be the best character in the game honestly... and they delivered. I'll main Don until I unlock him, then it's Casey all the way.
After the Baldur's Gate 3 forums and now the couple of visits I've made here, I'm legit starting to think Epic's decision not to have forums for their game releases might have been a good call. People just whine and ♥♥♥♥♥ about the stupidest ♥♥♥♥ over and over.
I don't even like Epic at all, yet this is just the dumbest fanboy ♥♥♥♥ I keep seeing.
