X-men 97 episode Motendo looks like a copy of TMNT
And it looked really nice! Seriously, the TMNT devs need to make an X-men game as shown in the Motendo episode of X-men 97. The style shown in the cartoon looks just like TMNT:SR Just make it have a proper character roster.

I do like the idea of this group doing an X-men arcade game. It would make a lot of sense with X-men 97 being wildly popular right now and the X-men arcade game being a milestone of the arcade beat em up genre
For anyone wondering what I am talking about. Here is a clip from the show. The side scrolling beat em action reminds me so much of TMNT:SR.

Bring X-men, The Simpsons, Hook, Alien vs Predator, Dungeons and Dragons, loved all those beat um up games back in the day.

I'm guessing that one issue would be that the Marvel license is far more expensive than the TMNT one.

Arcade1UP currently has their hooks on The SImpsons and X-Men (that machine also includes Captain America and The Avengers) so I wouldn't hold my breath on Steam getting that.

Hook is another Disney/Paramount co-opted with Irem, which barely exists as a company anymore since 1) they're owned by Eizo, and 2) they don't even develop games these days, only sometimes licensing out their IPs to other companies. Given that pretty much everyone has forgotten this one existed, I would be shocked if it ever got a rerelease.

AvP and DnD: Tower of Doom/Shadow over Mystara were Capcom titles.
ToD/SoM is actually on Steam:

...it's not the best porting job, quelle surprise, but it's there.

I wouldn't hold my breath on AvP (even though it was a baller title). They've never, ever re-released that beat-'em-up and I have long wondered why that is, particularly since Capcom themselves have mentioned before that more people have been asking for an HD remake of AvP than for any other title from their retro catalog[www.nintendolife.com].
My guess is that it would be an absolute nightmare to get all the licensing and/or would require substantial reworks of some of the assets to avoid licensing:
  • The Alien license because Xenomorphs
  • The Predator license because, well, Predators
  • AvP is in fact its own franchise, so that's another license
  • Unless the sprites get changed/restylized some more, Dutch Schaefer is Arnie, so that would be paying for his likeness
...and so forth.

Though Capcom and Konami definitely have some stuff from their back catalog that would be worth printing that isn't based on a preexisting license. A lot of those were already included on the Capcom Classics Beat em Up Collection, though...
