As for Survival Mode. I wouldn't say it is dead but after playing three waves the rooms lock themselves so that no one else can join which makes it much more difficult to find games in progress. It would be easier to host or setup a game with friends over finding a random session.
As for the crossplay bug, I thought it only crashed the game (which I've encountered issues like that since the beginning). I had no idea it destroyed saves. In any case, there are no PC players, either, so... 🤷♂️
i did that last night, bought a NY style pepperoni pizza, 6 pack of beer, bong, ganja and BUMBACLOT MON...
too bad nobody was playing online, so i ran solo. add me homie, I'm always down.

I just jump in and use "Party Up" or whatever it's called and choose public players. With this kind of game, even bad players make it funner than going solo and what I like the most is each local machine can add multiple players so there can be 3 people in one house in my game and it can fill up quite fast.
We, as fans, need to keep the candle lit here...by playing more.
Steam metrics do show the player base has dropped. But the fact you refer to the players that do join as "inept trash at video games" says to me that there are plenty of players still playing. Most games that are out this long do not have much of a casual player base. The fact unskilled or casual players are still there says to me that the player base is still pretty active.
