And Mona Lisa.
This version of Karai is an ex-Foot Clan member due to the Shredder replacing the entire clan with robots before the events of the cartoon.
Due to Shredder kicking EVERYONE out of the Foot Clan, Karai decides to lay claim as the clans master, but needs to defeat Shredder to start the clan anew with honor.
One of the few versions of Karai that isn't Shredders adopted daughter.
Shredder was dead and she came to New York to restore order to the American branch of the foot and teamed up with the Turtles on the promise the Foot wouldn't bother them again.
I actually really like this head-canon for Karai being placed in the classic series universe, and I'm going to adopt it as my own head-canon as well!
It's like, Batman:TAS is objectively better than the '60s Batman TV show, but the latter is a lot of fun if you watch it with the right frame of mind.
This ties in with another unfortunate sentiment a lot of people these days have; camp = bad, edgy = good.
It really is dark and gritty, which could be an advantage for some, but not for me. There is barely any humor in it, and pizza is fully absent as far as I can remember - and to me, it just doesn't feel like TMNT without humor and pizza. :) I also grew up with the 1987 version, but agree that it did not age well. Currently, I prefer the 2012 version. My sons also love it as it has great storylines, great action sequences, relatable character drama and plenty of humor (but does not go overboard like the latest iteration).
It seems like from what I've seen of her, that unlike the other characters who have some consistency, Karai is different just about every time she appears or is used in one of the series.
That's the 2012 version of Karai. She does come around, but just as she is about to become a full-fledged ally to the turtles, another plot twist occurs. I recommend watching it! :)
