Yeah, definitely a game mechanic. In the first 'Turtles' game, a menace to anyone's patience, & utterly out of my capabilities as a gamer, all the turtles moved, jumped, and struck in the same way. But with Donnie, one was capable of striking well down below platforms. Raph' was left to deal with those threats head-on, probably hazarding yet more threats on the way.
I can't say much for the 2nd and 3rd turtles titles, but with part IV, it become clear, they each had their own 'style' or mechanic differentiating them & leveling them all off. I can say the first time I was able to get past Slash in part IV, on the hardest difficulty, I had to use Raph.' Slash was so damn fast I had to counter with just that.
As for the sprint mechanic idea. I came to that conclusion too after awhile. The fact that Mikey seems to be hauling balls, and the others are not? There is also what seems to be 2 bars at the top for each character. One for health, one for stamina, sprint?
Time will tell.
The canon from the comics is different from the 90's cartoon, and that's different than the mechanics in the games, and each game seems to have it's own 'canonicity.'
I'm usually a stickler for such things when I'm in the know, but since I'm unsure how each character rates against the others in each of the versions of TMNT, I'll stick with comparing it to the game it resembles.
I guess I want balance, but maybe I really want a 'TMNT IV' part 2. :)
