Windows 7 Support?
I know, I know, Windows 7 is out of date. I'm just wondering if there's any potential support for Darktide with it. I know they haven't released any specs for the game/beta yet, maybe someone knows something about it though. Thanks.

Sker Ritual
Blight: Survival
No More Room In Hell 2
System Shock (2023)

just to name a few

Back in 2016 I understood this question. In 2022, a full 7 years after the release of DirectX 12, and 11 years since the last fully supported update of DirectX 11 for Windows 7 it just really seems silly.

Heck, outside of maintenance updates Win 7 hasn't received a significant update in 11 years either. And it's been outside of support entirely for 2 years.

I get it, people have a strong attachment to Windows 7, but at this point you're probably getting close to your hardware not even meeting minimum specs regardless of API.

This is getting to the point where it would be like an Xbox 360 owner complaining that the latest Xbox Series X games don't run on their system.
It's all about the mafia at MicosSoft and their metaphorical knee cap breaking hands on the balls of the gaming industry to force not supporting an OS they keep maliciously putting artificial blocks on to program you to use their service based OS. I get most games that are windows 10 only to work on windows 7 - such as the last 3 I got this week. Additionally get plenty non game programs and hardware that claims to be windows 10 only to work on 7 with minor tweaks.

Also DirectX sucks, time to globally support Vulkan, even if it is behind the back of your MS overlords.

Precisely <3

If you anyone here wants to attempt getting darktide to work on windows 7 without any "x64 Windows Debugger" Guru stuff you'll want the following

VxKex API Extensions
dxgi.dll from DXVK
(If you want to use DXVK Async you have to enable that inside of a dxvk.conf
IDXGISwapChain::Present
dxvk.enableAsync = True )

And the x64 VKD3D Proton "d3d12.dll" Version 2.6
(that is the latest one that will work with Windows 7 Vulkan drivers from AMD/Nvidia).

That's my toolkit for troubleshooting this stuff. if none of that makes any progress I usually conclude

"they" made Raytracing a hard requirement
and or it'll just require more tinkering from an expert like OTK, they guy who made the Elden Ring and Spiderman Patch.

Thankfully I don't think the devs on a coop game like this are very opposed to "mods" so a bit realistic it could be made to work somehow.
(unlike something akin to online pvp Call of Duty Warzone *cough cough*)

Best of luck to whoever takes the reins in testing it out

I'm just going to say if you use Windows7 and you get a virus or hacked or anything like that you are to blame for it Windows7 is simply not safe to use anymore and will only get more sketchy to use just do yourself a favor and upgrade to Windows10 then deblote it you'll be much safer and you don't need to worry about your favorite game not being supported you can make Windows10 look like windows7 to.

No dev on earth would allow their game in 2022 to run in an outdated out of service OS that. That is supporting getting your pc Hacked and taken over.
Only absolute fools use Windows7.
As an operating system it was just superior and so is Windows 10.
Don't see a single reason why someone would want to upgrade to Windows 11, except for running Intel 12th generation hardware that improves performance a lot.
Microsoft messed up with Win11.

I'm actually surprised by the amount of people that still run Windows 7.

Don't worry we'll get Win12 and it'll go the way of 8 probably, lol.

I sure do hope so. Microsoft's continues attempts to get us some hacksawed together half-tablet, half-iOS nightmare abomination Operating System is little more than Bill Gates and devs pranking us.
They need to skim down the UI designer team and just have the backend devs code what needs to get updated. Nobody buys a windows system to have "simplification", especially now that we have Google Chrome and Android Tablets with high end Snapdragon processing units.

Realistically, windows 7 is as sketchy as it will ever be. Unless some really juicy target is still using it, like banks for example, all the numbers are on 10 now so that's where the cutting edge exploits will be found.

The problem with windows7 is it no longer gets security updates to fix vulnerabilities windows10 still updates to fix such problems so over time W7 will just get worse right now someone can hijack your W7 from a simple pop-up add that uses a vulnerability to download thing's without your knowledge I wouldn't even trust W7 for simple webbrowsing anymore and windows7 is still widely used for personal PC to this day

Generally speaking, when Microsoft stop supporting an OS, that's when everyone else does also.

I would recommend upgrading to Windows 10 ASAP.

Give windows 11 a miss for the next year or two.

Yea W11 has some pretty cool features but it's not polished enough eventually we'll be having the same conversation with W10 not being supported it's just how things go

Just a heads up OP, your local electro-mechanic isn't going to help you with your horse carriage either.
