Eviscerator or???
Just hit 30 with my zealot! It’s been a wild ride and I’ve been having a lot of fun. I tried out an eviscerator build I found on steam and it’s been a great starting build to get me familiar with the class. I played a ton of legend/cata runs in VT2, so I’m currently doing heresy matches and finding it to be a great challenge (usually grabbing a victory about 3/4 of the time).

However, I’m starting to notice a few things about the eviscerator that are potentially limiting my gameplay.

First thing is that it really does struggle vs anything but hordes, UNLESS you rev it up and heavy swing. I find of those (mixed with charge after connecting for more damage) will take down crushers and anything with one hit, easily.

However, it’s a death sentence if you are trying to use it in a mixed horde or even lots of carapace/unyielding enemies. For that, I carry the bolter and just spray entire groups of whatever down with ease. But sometimes you don’t have time to switch to bolter mid combat and have to stick it out with melee.

This has led to me just madly spamming lights/dodging and trying to support my team by at least being a distraction/thorn in the enemies side, or I just focus on horde clear until numbers are thinned enough so I can rev/heavy attack the big guys. But that’s a lot of time where things can go wrong fast.

Is there a better approach I should be taking with the eviscerator? Or is there just a flat out better weapon/build I could be following for heresy and above difficulty? Any advice would be great.

Any weapon can be made to work. Since they nerfed Eviscerator, I think there are better and more enjoyable options.

Testing it against 10 Ragers in Psykanium, and then doing the same test with Relic Blade, will quickly make you realize how out-classed Eviscerator is. Not only does Relic Blade stagger them more, but it also kills them at ten times the speed.

Final judgement? I think Eviscerator had its day in the sun, but those days are long gone. Come on down to Relic Blade Town and enjoy what Eviscerator once was.

Which Evis are you using? I only like the old one, the MK 2, but you can't just spam lights on it. Push + dodge back to make room so you can rev up and kill something beefy (or dash to something else to kill), etc. You're not an Ogryn, you can't just wade in and hope for the best.

Using MK XV. I agree, I generally avoid just rushing in and hoping for the best. I’m more speaking about those times when you’re in the middle of a horde rush and all of a sudden you have some heavy armoured/tougher enemies show up mixed in!

Greatsword >>> Eviscerator
The power zwei completely obsoletes the evis unless you intend to make a bleed build.
Try the newest weapon of the zealot (Greatsword). I love the eviscerator II but it's so much faster for the special. Not saying which is better than the other. People already said but just adding that it's what you want if you want to fight (akin to the chainsaws) and not run.

Thanks for the response (everyone).

But this summed up how I felt pretty well. I just felt like I was having to work extra hard for that killing power. I mean, crushers and bulwarks? Fine, I don’t expect to take them out in one shot outside of charge/heavy swing.

But having to 2 heavy swing ragers seemed like it was taking too long, especially in a horde where you don’t have the room/time to focus one down at a time.

I will try when I get home!

Slay 'em all!
I prefer the Combat Chainsword tbh, if you want to play a chain weapon. Like others pointed out, the new Relic Blade is super good and super fun.
Surprised there weren't any crusher advocates as that weapon is both fun and kinda dumb.

yeah the Eviscerator has this massive issue where you need to use the special and then charge heavy in order to deal with crushers and to a lesser extent other armored enemies.
The Fatshark should give it an auto eh.. shreding? Like the chain axe´s heavys.
If you dont wanna change weapon you can solve it with a boltgun or a second option is the bolt pistol.
If you wanna know the supper OP melee weapon its the Mark 4 Dueling sword (its kinda like Saltzpyre´s Rapier). You can charge heavy and then use special for one shooting maulers (technically is 2 shooting but ya´know, basiclally the same)
Yeah the damage for catching enemies with the saw is very underwhelming when contrasted with the risk. And the abundance of weapons that absolutely murder enemies with just stabs or slashes. It should take like 2 unpowered heavies to kill elites but sometimes you'll be doing like 3+.
duelling sword all the way , launching with zealot and stabbing straight into a crushers face killing it is the real deal .

I get it that it's a good weapon but it's 40k and I want power and chain guns and stuff.

at high levels it seems to be duelling sword- relic blade - knife.
i tried the relic blade. didn't like it. what it does to the zealot movement speed is a deal breaker for me. duelling sword is so strong but so meta you just feel like you are doing what everyone else does. really, a whole lot of weapons need to be on the same level as these 3 and their blessings need to be a whole lot more flexitble and profitable to support diverse build styles. if i could find a build to use one of the little, fast chainswords then I would use it, but i can't find anything that isn't ridiculously inferior to other options... or atleast, there isn't the flexibility elsewhere to be able to mkae up for the deficits of the chainsword. that flexibility would be a gun that cna take out heavies quickly. basically leaving us with the bolt gun or, perhaps, the zarona revolver. but boltgun takes too long to draw and reload, and zarona can only kill a couple of heavies per reload, max, and that reload is painful
