y WW2. Not nazi ^^
Resist temptation to generalise the biggest conflicts as actions between the largest geopolitical participants: this long-standing miss-recording of history is practically new, and emerged from the immense propaganda activity of the second great war in Europe. It explains why 'the war on terror' and 'war against communism' that went before it were such dismal failures for all involved.
In such cases, direct experience of conflict became side-lined and propaganda-spreading political journalists were promoted to talk about things they didn't understand, on a level that was a general broad-brush that just ignored why and how things were happening. This results in political leaders believing their own propaganda to a degree, and making decisions they did not understand as a consequence.
The second great war in Europe was not between-
The Allies: The United States, British Empire, France and Russia
The Axis: Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, Japanese Empire, France and Russia
It was between-
Stalin and his politburo, Hitler and Stalin, Churchill and Hitler and Stalin, Hitler and his drug-addiction, Rommel and Hitler, Churchill and Chamberlain, Roosevelt and Congress, the Vichy regime and the resistance and deGaul, collaborators on every side, the global scientific community with itself, the staff of the Stalingrad institute for food research(who preserved the seeds that would produce most of the world's cultivated food of the last 80 years, without eating any of it and dying of starvation), assorted nationalists inspired by the Nazis like the Bandarens in what is now Ukraine, I'm sure that won't cause problems later. And many more, many such cases.
As for Rommel the Nazi, would it be more appropriate to use the name of one of those who tried to assassinate Hitler? Rommel was after all a frequent disobedient commander in a time when that would have meant death for anyone less competent.
We can't expect a random person that has to make a decision about appropriateness to weigh up and judge each member of the NSDAP. We have access to more information than ever, and yet seem to know less than ever.
lmao.
Why does this have to be moderated? If someone, which isn't 100% unlikely, has that family Name and wants to use it should he get moderated?
Lots of Names from WW2 Generals and political Leaders are still common within in Germany. Its really just the Himmler, Hitler, Göring and Göbbels which aren't used anymore but even those you can still find sometimes - in fact in my Town theres a Family which is still named Göbbels.
My original family name is also one of an WW2 General and the one we have now just as well.
Its ridicilous if i would get moderated / censored because of my own Name and even if as a reference to WW2 Generals; not all of them were evil and still held in high regard. And why is this only done in the case of German Names?
We at least apologized for it and got punished. Meanwhile in Japan their President casually visiting Shrines paying tribute to the people who comitted the R* of Nanjing. Doubt you will get banned for naming yourself after one of those Generals. Or any of the deranged USSR Leaders/Generals who killed more of their own people and ethnically cleansed even more political opponents and other ethnic population than the Third Reich did during its existence - which is not to downplay the Third Reich Actions but its very hypocritical and biased of FS Moderation as well as peoples general opinion.
Seeing Dog Whistles or the likes in any German Name; Dood named after WW2 General must be a hidden N*. If i give myself an Belgian Name am i an hidden Colonial Congo Enjoyer? Vast majority don't even know the Names of anyone involved with that.
And can't be proud of any WW2 General or even Relatives as a German? Doesn't mean one supports the political mania who started WW2; if i name myself after an WW2 US General or anyone after it does that make me support racial segration, the US support of the Genocide in Indonesia and what not?
