load screens and missing body parts

when ever i start the game there is generally about 5mins of loading from clicking play on steam until i can move around. when i can move around, everyone including me has missing body parts. this can take another few minutes to fix itself.

is this a common problem on start up?

Not that i know of. It sounds like the game is loading very slowly for you.
The list of reason are endless, but here some ideas:
Whitlelist steamfolder on your antivirus
Internetproblems?
Upgrade to a SSD. But even a HDD should not have this problem.
Verify gamefiles.
Delete the Darktide folder in "Your Username Folder]\AppData\Roaming\Fatshark\Darktide\"
Delete all mods.

It happens to me also. And I use a Samsung 980 Pro NvMe SSM that loads everything pretty fast. Only Darktide loads slow sometimes. I know that above 80% capacity the read/write rates starts to really tank. My capacity is at 40% at the moment and CrystalDiskMark shows no signs of fault. Everything as expected.

I use the same 2TB version. I havent seen this problem with my SSD.
