Knife Zealots are the new Kerillians

Bonus points if they're abrasive and keep running past resources. I can honestly say most of my games have been miserable with them.

I think lacerate is the issue. People sacrifice a blessing to tank their dps against hordes by hitting them in the body instead of the head. Bleed is crap vs anything with less than elite hp, and even against elites you can kill them faster by just headshotting with a better blessing.

The knife will crit enough to proc your damage resist and give you the crit on bleed with or without lacerate (especially if you get shred, assuming you can get it. Its on the wiki but I haven't seen one myself).

Perhaps, but I think another just as common reason why it goes to ♥♥♥♥ is that people just hear the words 'knife zealot is meta' and just grab the first knife they own and go wild with it, even if its ♥♥♥♥ statted, terrible blessings, is green, etc. etc.

Knife builds need a lot of certain feats, perks, and blessings to work at full effectiveness at heresy+, and even then just general skill that a lot of people are lacking.

75% toughness reduction doesn't make you full invulnerable after all.

Pretty sure it doesn't. Many people do this for micro practice. You'll see the same thing in StarCraft, players start spammng their omuse/actions as a warmup. It's pretty common to see, especially when a game is new. - players are getting all the micro practice t hey can.

But I've walked/run alongside sliders and they aren't any faster

they aren't faster anymore because sliding was nerfed in the last patch

Even if that were true, those types of zealots often still spectacularly fail at Heresy and sometimes even Malice, because they think having a "meta" setup will carry them through the game. Reality is that they often get curbstomped far away from the rest of the team and make the whole thing harder than it needs to be, because they're getting reckless and don't know how to make the loadout work.

I'll stick with my combat axe and flamer, thanks.

I've used combat knife with crit build before. Crap knife too because i've yet to see another with lacerate. It's fun to zip about especially when you've got a lot of ranged enemies and no one helping suppress to make an approach. It's also great for grinding out lower difficulties very fast to farm finishes or books for the frankly abusive contracts. It CAN work in heresy+ but I don't like it as much as other options and you really need to carry something to deal with armor. I tend to pair it with a bolter that has +2 rending on hit. It definitely has its niche, but it's not the best by any means. I tend to avoid the crit build for the most part because I don't have a tactical axe that can reliably crit enough and the combat blade is too weak and has no stagger.

Sliding tend to not increase movement enough to matter especially if the weapon is heavy. As a zealot with an Evis, i can sprint past the sliding vets and zealots.

Seriously, if there is nothing shooting at you, don't slide all over the place. It is not Warframe.

Bring axe for armoured beings as well as general usage. When a horde comes in, switch to dual hammers to go brttttt on the horde.

Mine is lacerate +3 bleeds, got it within the last 2 weeks

You don't need lacerate on combat blade. It will crit without it. Shred is a better way to get crit, the rending on weakspot is massively higher dps vs armored enemies, and just in general vs pretty much anything but maybe reapers/bulwarks you'll do more damage by headshotting than by trying to bleed them to death.
