Psyker is really bad?

Edit: After trying some builds i found online i was able to put together a build that not only emulates the feel of Zealot, but indeed does more damage and more crowd control than zealot while covering more damage types. So while i have changed to the idea psyker is much better than i first thought. I do think its a much higher risk than playing something else, as your mistakes are more punished. The reward is higher and more satisfying so i plan on playing it a lot more. Thanks to the people who actually contributed to the discussion. To everyone else who was just being mean for the sake of it. Step on legos please and thanks.

Moast of time play two classes(Ogryn and Psyker)
While you need be aware of surroundigs when play psyker it possible to deal quite the damage.
I dont use myself scorebord mod but my freinds who use it sometimes say Im either 2nd or even 1st on dmg numbers.
Also smite is boring.

No, it just takes a lot more to be good on a Psyker. It is the highest skill capped class while also being more reliant on gear and proper skill management. If you go from maining a zealot to a psyker and expect it to be anything close to the same experience you are sorely mistaken. Two completely different playstyles with completely different skills. Psyker is actually the best class in the game when played properly and probably the only class that can reliably true solo the hardest difficulties when played properly. Most classes can only cover so much when it comes to killing enemies, a psyker can cover everything while having great mobility. Takes time and practice.

Coming from zealot you will feel like that about psyker and certain vet builds for sure. Psyker is more squishy, but it offers insane damage output for sure, especially at range. My advise, do not use smite, you will never learn the class. Either build around staves or guns. When you get good and get bored of staves / shooting you can even build around being a front liner (defo not a meta approach). Psyker can offer some rewarding play styles.

Smite is best used on a gun psyker and only on rare occasions (hound spam or generally overwhelmed). And you should fully charge it up then fire it off and release immediately. Doing this knocks stuff down and or staggers it. Holding the smite button down does garbage dps.

I personally prefer purg staff + brain burster + bubble.

Psyker can do absolutely insane amounts of damage, even oneshotting multiple Crushers with an infinite ammo ranged weapon. They can block ranged attacks with some of their melee weapons, tank a swathe of reapers with bubble shield, regenerate toughness almost as fast as zealot, and CC like a madman. So while technically squishy in terms of actual numbers, they can really be quite hard to kill. Definitely weirder and harder to play in some aspects if youre used to a nonpsyker class. every time I come off of a hiatus and jump back on psyker it takes me a bit to get my sea legs back for sure

Your hours aren't enough to make an objective and unbiased comparison. Psyker is very strong. But like all classes, if played poorly, they will struggle.

work out a better build and experiment with the abilities, craft different weaponry for the build, increase stamina, etc.

1: Smite is a crowd control ability. Not a DPS beast. Although, it still does respectable damage because it chains between so many enemies. It's not uncommon to out damage players even with Smite. Though I think that says more about the other players than anything else.

2: You have more tools in the Psyker kit than Smite. The staves and the other five abilities are S-tier stuff if used correctly.

3: As some have already pointed out. The skill of the player is something to be considered.

lately i've been playing a build with a deimos that deletes armor + purgatus along with telekine shield and assail. it has an answer for pretty much every situation except for damaging carapace and monstrosities at long range. it felt very impactful and active in all the games i played with it

psyker is all about using the correct tool correctly for every situation throughout the whole mission. you can still get away with just spamming fireballs and do nothing else since you'll be doing decent damage at least, but spamming smite the entire game isn't going to accomplish much. no offense but you sound like you haven't even tried any of the staves yet
