Nerf "Behind enemy lines"
It's just hilariously overburdend with critereas to meet:
- be away from all aliies
- have the loner aura
- kill only ranged enemies
- kill those ranged enemies with a backstab

It's a penance about the loner, so being away from allies so it's in effect makes sense. Then demanding you attack ranged enemies makes sense, since that is then usefull to the team.

But the backstab is just stupid. It has nothing to do with the loner perk and makes the penance just so much harder.

Just drop the backstab bit and make it less frustrating.

Just confirmed it, snipers, shotgunners and bruisers (the scabs with the "smg" lasguns) don't count as ranged enemies, only "full blooded" ranged enemies.

Same BS we had with the veteran ability highlighting "all" shooters, but worse.

Git Gut! but yeah, its a lil tedious

If you line up your hits correctly, you kill 3+ enemies in one use of stealth.

Original Eviscerator's first heavy attack is horizontal swing that can decapitate multiple enemies at the same time if you don't just swing it mindlessly. Ironhelm Thunder Hammer's charged attack will usually kill 3 enemies at least with a full heavy attack charge. Or just play with knife normally, the mark 6 has more aoe on heavy hits and might kill more than 1 enemy.

Also if you're using stealth and Backstabber talent, you should attack enemies in the back as much as possible. Stealth gives you backstab damage multiplier and some weapons will kill enemies more effectively in the back than if you hit weakspot (because in real games targets move a lot and sometimes headshot don't register properly). \

Also use PIous Cutthroat talent for more ult charges -> more stealth attacks.

I just did this one earlier and it took about 10 games to get in auric damnation without stealth (running chorus for team) and without actively griefing my team. If you use a really fast weapon like the combat blade, you can actually spin around the enemies faster than they can turn and kill them with backstabs. If you're actively trying to get it, probably can do it significantly faster.

I'm mainly annoyed by the fact, that it demands you to be away from your teammates.

Meanwhile EVERY other part of the game encourages you and your teammates to stick together.

It was a bit annoying but tbh doesn't hold a candle to the oggy penances. xD

Personally I took it as a nice learning moment for those backstabs in general. They're pretty finnicky after all.

Every class has tedious penances. Get over it. But some of the zealot were surely a nightmare.

While it's got excessive criteria, it's not too bad, think it took about 8-10 matches on Heresy. Sycorax works really well for it due to the final arena spawns.

Could be improved by either dropping the backstab requirement, or dropping the range unit requirement. If FS chose either, they would probably need to up the number of kills a bit.

True. "Onslaught" is way more grindy and way less fun.

As a tip for anyone doing that penance:
Ranged weapons spacial melee attacks always count as heavy attacks.
So to do this a bit more quickly, take you Ripper and go staby-staby in hordes.

It counts as a backstab as long as you attack them in the back, so just push to stagger and move behind them and attack.
Steinar Sep 22, 2024 @ 5:44am
If you're playing with a Knife, you can use your special to punch shooters to stagger them, walk behind them, then do a light attack (which now becomes heavy 1).

The Penance tries to teach you how to play Zealot's right tree.

As a Zealot you have the capability to disappear from coherency, skip ranged combat, and round up shooters in melee. Doing backstabs recharges your Ability so you can land devastating blows to high priority targets more often.

I can see you're thinking about Loner the wrong way. Loner doesn't demand that you be out of coherency at all times. It's just a bonus for the times you choose to strategically run out of coherency.

As a Zealot you'll need to learn when to strategically leave coherency for the better of the team. You'll draw a lot of attention to yourself, which means less oppression against the team, and that's the real benefit.
