The Ogryn feels weak in Auric difficulty
I love my Ogryn boy, I levelled him first and enjoyed my time with him when the game released but over time and when going into higher difficulties, he felt kinda useless ?

Ogryns are slow so they can't take on far range targets fast. As such, the shield is a good pick to hold down positions and protect yourself while your mates (if they're smart) take down targets. But as a consequence, his melee attacks feel really weak even against basic enemies, it takes several hits to kill a horde and it just look like a sad game of pinata for a solid minute.

As for the long range weapons, the choice is very limited, which makes sense lore wise but the guns we have also feel weak ? Unless you use a shell thrower but then you have very little ammo with it and aiming for a hiding sniper or a gunner is highly dangerous and will result in you dying if you're surrounded.

The grenades are great imo and being the only class to be able to take on a DH with relative safety is cool but the rest really feels meh.

Maybe I did something wrong in my build although I went for a mix of charge/tanky one. I just end up using a greatsword zealot cause it takes just a few swings to kill almost anything, even bosses.

For a species that is said to be able to take on space marines, it doesn't feel right.

Only if I start taking a lot of ranged fire do I have make an effort to stay alive and even then as long as I've got a target or three to smack I'm forever regening toughness. Check online for some builds for info and inspiration.

First of all, it doesn't make sense lore wise because our Ogryn is not lore friendly.
We might get something that is accurate at long range, only if the devs will actually move their butts and use their brains for something other than reskins.
Secondly, Ogryn stronk. Bash people.

Interesting theory but Ogryn has better bleed than zealot without weapon perks.

Ogryn can be extremely powerful even on the highest difficulties. Im not the expert on him, so hopefully others are able to elaborate as well, but he is my usual pick on Auric next to psyker. Sounds like youre using the shields light attacks, which are absolutely pitiful. While bleed got nerfed, shield heavies into hordes with bleed on heavy attacks will still get the job done. Even then, I still prefer his other melee weapons.

Im not sure what the shell thrower is but either the grenadier gauntlet or the rumbler are both fine for sniping and dont take long to aim. Just as risky as any other class. But my gunlugger usually just shoots at whatever he needs to with any gun in his arsenal and it ends up dying before it becomes a threat. And his ripper gun will kill a boss in 8 seconds consistently (I dont even think thats optimal, I know people have crafted ones that can do it faster).

Hope you continue to enjoy playing Ogryn, and it might be worth it to take a look at some Ogryn builds to or some Auric Maelstrom gameplay to see if your movement/engagement patterns are off. Best of luck

Nah Ogryns are definitely tough if you build for it. My Ogryn is absolutely my strongest toughest character where I can play the worst and make more mistakes than on other characters and still do okay. He's just slow. But if there's something to hit nearby, basically invincible.

Use shield with confident and thunderstrike - Never light attack.

Use grenade launcher with sticky nades and armor shred.

Get extra toughness and ways to regen toughness.

Take the feel no pain keystone, and any other damage resist you can fit.

Charge ability, rocks blitz, and bonebreaker's aura.

Get skilled.

All you need to worry about is teammates running off/staying behind to suicide, teammates killing you with a barrel or similar (poxburster/monstrosity), and silent dog or trapper bugs.

If you use shield go spam block/cancel 1st heavy attack.
It hit like a truck compared to the door swipe 2nd wich is great for cc and use kickback for ranged wich is great for snipers.
Maybe take the taunt with block talent to make ranged mobs rush in melee(except gunners because Fatshark).

The reality is we would need more information from to really help, but in general get the grenadier gauntlet mine can one shot most specials including the mutant you get 4 shots per reload and and nice little aoe( i have +25% maniac, +10% specialist, Blessings are power bonus from aiming and the shred ability) also what trinkets do you use my tanky boy has 420 health and 230 shield I find a high shield value helps more as you are constantly recovering a percentage of this this by hitting.

Oggys do suffer from mass shooting as they are so large find cover is hard and charging into 30 shooters is suicide as you are also slow dodges are shorter

Nothing can shoot you while you are sliding and Ogryn won't be staggered by shots in between slides.

The ogryn has one of the strongest subclasses in the game with DPS rivalled only by a TH zealot at 7 wounds or a bolter vet vs ogryns with his ult up

Literal skill issue

Gonna need to know what your build is. I solo daemonhosts with ogryn shield.
Daergar Jun 6, 2024 @ 2:24am
Sorry, complete build and skill issue. Which is great news since both of those can be rectified. Victory!

My personal favorite for a while is the basic shield and shotgun combo, running protector and the rest geared toward debuffing and stacking damage increase on anything I am near or touches. It warms my cockles to watch an Auric Nurgle buffed monster just melt in seconds while I can tank 9/10ths of the enemy horde at the same time.

The biggest issue I see with Orgyn is lack of a precision weapon for dealing with specific specials (name snipers).

They don't seen to be the best at anything besides knocking stuff down.

Hoping the 2h weapon fixes this.

The amount of Psykers, vets, and Zealot that go complete trash killing spec has been insanely stupid lately in Auric, or they go crusher killing only. For whatever reason they take both weapons to fill the same exact role.

I don't understad the Psykers with Smite, Surge staff, bubble, and knife at all.

It's time to open up that Ogrynomicon and read up a bit. I have a strong feeling you are using Shield incorrectly.
