Swift certainty means that this will happen even if you are running with 0 stamina.
... or so i have been told. i'm not 100% sure i. i never take that ♥♥♥♥ talent.
See also the Veteran's "duck and dive" talent (and its interaction with the Stripped Down blessing).
Does the running direction need to be perfectly perpendicular to the shooter?
It's in the higest rated zealot build on Fatshark's own Darktide community builds page... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

no.
/upd after patch 13 you should take only 50% toughness damage while sprinting with this talent. In theory, never actually tested it.
You dodge any ranged attack while sprinting at about a 75+ degree away from the shooter. This talent allows you to do that even at 0 stamina, and increases your sprint speed (40% with stamina, 20% without stamina).
It is an incredibly powerful talent for any zealot who focuses on melee, just for the speed increase. Speed means you spend less time being shot and more time in melee with enemies. Enemy bodies block ranged attacks, and all enemies besides Gunners and Reapers will pull out their melee weapon and try to attack you instead of shooting you once you are close. This means closing the distance to a group of shooters is multiple times more efficient than even using a ranged weapon, since ammo is a resource (especially without a survivalist vet).
There is no toughness damage reduction at all.
