(Kickback) That thing just deletes a good chunk of a horde when lined up.
specialist weapons - ripper, stubber. ripper with can opener supports bad anti-armor weapons (power club, bull butcher cleaver, mk VI cleaver). it can be used with or without barrage active skill, but is better with it. stubber is great with barrage active skill, underwhelming without.
grenade gauntlet is the most fun simply because of the versatility. light melee, heavy melee, including combos and "secret" attack (light + heavy or special attack + heavy produces a "secret" heavy 2 sweep attack). special punch is funny to use, especially with taunt active to create density in front of you. pinpoint is very effective for achieving breakpoints not otherwise reachable without min-maxed rolls. toughness on elite kill works on both melee and ranged kills.
grenade gauntlet is also perhaps the best special killer in the game. easy breakpoints against dogs, pox bursters, snipers, trappers. and guaranteed knockdowns against flamers. it makes short work of the most annoying enemies, which increases fun factor.
remember in all cases that the melee strikes from your gun's alternate attacks count as heavy melee (except for grenade gauntlet light attacks), and so they can replenish toughness, spread bleed, stack heavy hitter keystone, etc.
You don't really need to put any talents in augmenting this weapon either to make it effective although you could. It's very general purpose useful as an Ogryn secondary weapon, just don't overuse it because it doesn't have a lot of ammo.
I run this weapon primarily in my heavy hitting build with a MK1 Bully Club.
For melee ogryn I like the slab shield
they are effective, but they are also pretty boring to use across the board
though grenade gauntlet was a lot of fun during the brief period in between the class-rework and the anniversary updates when it actually worked as an effective melee weapon and headshots would blast the face off everything

Are the cartridges for those guns.
Just opening up with it and shredding a hoard is so much fun....
...but the kickback is far far more time and ammo efficient. And the rumbler or grenade gauntlet are better for those times you need to hit something a long way away.
Absolutely cannot find a redeeming quality for the ripper though.
The other guns rumbler, gauntlet, are really decent, but gauntlet I feel is not in a good spot for "feel" for me. My sense on it is that some heavy attack speed increases would really go a long way, as it has a very short range in melee.
ie it is not fun anymore
Ripper guns can also fill a similar roll and with the right blessing (can opener), you can easily take down armored units like crushers and maulers with ease. Most people usually go with either the Mk II or V. The II offers higher base damage at the cost of the slowest RoF while the Mk V sacrifices some damage for a faster RoF and tighter spread (that can deal some good ranged damage once you learn to control it, especially the unbraced 3 round burst). Both braced can also chew apart hordes. Can't speak much to the Mk VI as I could just never get into it being only burst fire modes.
Grenadier Gauntlet and Rumbler are your long range explosive weapons. The Gauntlet is great nice and accurate, explodes on impact, and is good against armor plus it can be used as a melee if needed. 4 shots before needing to reload it is also nice, but if your not careful, you can easily blow through ammo, typically best saved for elites and specials or if you need to knock down a group of shooters. Rumbler is just a kickback firing big nades that impact with some good stagger and bounce off their target and explode a second or so after impact (each shot varies). Good for clearing groups of shooters, especially since you can bounce the shot off corners/walls to blast enemies behind cover.
Heavy Stubbers are you big MG's. The Mk IV hits the hardest but shoots the slowest, has the lowest ammo pool, and picks up the least ammo. The Mk VII shoots the fastest and picks up the most ammo, but it does the least damage (it does reload fast though). The Mk V sits in the middle of the IV and VII. The Stubbers are fun, but honestly, I haven't used them in a fair while as I don't find the ammo efficiency is that great compared to the ammo you spend. Not saying they are bad, but their just not for me personally and I'd still suggest trying them.
Personally, I find all of them fun (minus some specific marks) and you just need to find how to build around your talents, choice of melee, and what just works best for you.
Heavy Stubber MK7, Rumbler and Kickback. If you're going Gunlugger, I'd go Stubber. It's fun to spray bullets!
