How to troubleshoot 20-30 FPS
My game keeps dropping to 20-30 FPS while in level, but my GPU is only working at around 70%, according to Task Manager. Sometimes I get 60. I have a GeForce RTX 3070 Ti and 16 GB of RAM. FPS drops to 30 even without much going on, like when I'm sitting captured. Drops to 20 sometimes during action. Makes no difference whether on fullscreen or bordered windowless, or with Vsync on/off.

Any advice on how I can stay at 60 FPS? The drops ruin the play experience.

What res and settings are you running the game at? Also keep dlss on the game chugs without it.

Whats your CPU?

What are the video settings set to? Check if you have V-sync on.

There were also a specific one that said it used AI to dynamically change what your settings were; I set that to a static option. That seemed to both increase and stabilize my FPS.

Also what resolution are you playing on OP?

Make sure you have Ray Tracing disabled. Set everything to low or off, then slowly turn up settings until you're comfortable with the quality and performance.
Disable background apps and unnecessary stuff, if you have GeForce Experience, make sure you didn't accidentally "optimize" the game with that.

Simple problem, something is bottlenecking your system right now.
I assume that you have mediocre to good understanding of what you're doing with your system, so I would recommend a checkup.

- Check your GPU driver, is it updated to the latest version? Sometimes Nvidia Experience itself needs an update and stops notifying you about updates - Happened a lot to me.

- Try the RAM Units, especially check if the Units are in the proper slot for Dual channel. If everything is fine, I would still suggest pulling them, cleaning the contacts with some alcohol and re-installing them again.

In 1080p at a kix of low to high settings I'm getting pretty much a solid 60fps with a ryzen 7 3800 x, 1080 GTX and 32 gigs of ram so your system should be out performing mine

I will add I've been getting very noticable lag on attacks from my character and the ai including what feels like I put lag how ever I believe this may be the server as it's a recent thing and is consistent

I would make sure nothing else is using your CPU while you game.

Is there a setting for that, or do you just mean I should take a look at Task Manager?

You need i9 with OC to boost all core clocks to play this game.

I had i5 11400, 128gb ram, 4090 and only after upgrading to i9 11900k and OC it, I finaly get stable 60 FPS on this game.

with i5 11400 I had dips to 45-55 fps during missions.

Not sure what did the trick. I disabled a bunch of apps from running in background, had GeForce optimize the game, then limited FPS to 72 with Vsync. After that, things seem to be running better.

This is a load of garbage, dont listen to this guy. Also pairing a 4090 with an i5 is 2500% a cpu bottleneck. Even an i9-13900K will bottleneck darktide below 4K with a 4090.

@op, glad you got it working well, your CPU/GPU is fine for darktide.
Like I said in my previous comment, whenever you have performance issues, check background apps (like you did) and set everything in the game to the lowest settings, then one by one turn up settings until you're satisfied or find the culprit that's causing the lag.
Cheers.

Keep in mind, this game has ray tracing and that will destroy your FPS on a 30 series card. Make sure 100% it's disabled.

Well done! Try turning the apps back on, one by one ;)

Nobody ever needs an i9 unless doing some heavier tasks. This game does not call for an i9. Your performance was very limited as your previous CPU was unable to keep up with your GPU.

Try not to give hardware advice esp since you seem to be telling people to upgrade to expensive setups that few can afford.

4090 = 2k euro
i9 11900k = 260 euro

2260 for 60 stable fps... nah i'll stay with my 40 fps
