If they somehow have the same modifiers, then I would expect the mission to run pretty much the same whether it is auric or not.
Auric missions are guaranteed to have the "Hi Intensity" modifier and will never have the "Low Intensity" modifier. They are also more likely to have multiple modifiers together.
Normal missions can also be "Hi Intensity" but can also have the "Low Intensity" modifier. They less often have multiple modifiers together.
Auric missions were added because once upon a time the mission board only hosted 3-4 T4-T5 missions at a time. Those missions often had no modifiers or were Low Intensity so people who had reached "end game" and wanted a challenge had nothing to play. It was common for people to log off for long periods of time because map rotation was stuck on easy mode.
Usually they will also be Shock Troop. Sometimes dogs, lights out, ventilation fog, etc
