I agree, while the heavy laspistol has the least base damage of all the non automatic las weapons it does have:
- no recoil
- decent/high ammo
- you don't need to zoom in, hipfire headshots are easy to pull off
- high visibility / situatial awareness because not zoomed in and small(er) weapon model
for the more thougher enemies you can equip kraks to take care off
add the power sword with the cycler so you can special attack several times and there is nothing you can't take on.
the only downsides really are the low base damage and the fact that if you don't use the autoclicker mod you will spam left click like crazy during firefights
- Better mobility which means better dodging and provides you with melee options
- Faster swapping, which means it is easy to switch between it and your melee weapon
- Faster reload
The faster rate of fire also makes it better at dealing with hordes, and even with the reduced damage it does one-shot enemies on higher difficulties with weakspot hits like the normal lasgun does.
I guess the minus is that it doesn't come with a flashlight?
Sounds like a skill issue and not rolling a proper one + decent talent tree then. Which is fair, without a bit of planning they are pretty mid.
Go full crit build with weakspot crit chance increase & deadshot included and crit ammo return. Go for both +10% rending and stacking 2.5% brittleness per shot. Don't forget a +Stamina curio with Stamina regen.
Literally every lasgun is viable like this, no executioner's stance needed. But it turns it from a good weapon into a broken weapon - all ranged will die at your hands and it just becomes OG Veteran. The laspistol is weaker than the lasguns but is still a good weapon with its instant-quickswap speed, low recoil & high stability / movement speed.
Go ammo return aura if you want, but it's not needed. You can even play this with just a shout build for extra teamplay if you aren't the super greatest at chaining gun kills for exe. stance.
The other two weapons you mentioned though are gimmicky and not very versatile options for higher difficulties
It might be, but in practice in a game like Darktide it's at best mid and at worst compromises your melee options where you don't need to.
One of the essential skills for higher skilled Vet play is being able to use your dodges (especially with a decent mobility stat btw) while under pressure. And if you're unable to do so, stop trying. Literally throw grenades, back up, use your shout if you have it or go stealth. Hell, go catachan sword and parry spam so you don't get gibbed while you back off. You have a lot of paths to compensate for either the lack of skill or consistency for random teams.
Or if you want to just nullify like, half your weakness as Vet just go power sword with power cycler and sunder. Power up and chainstun basically anything (attacking ragers included) except Crushers, which the push attack depending on which sword you use does heavy Carapace damage.
