Yeah I honestly feel the same with vet being bad.
I just don't understand what his strength is supposed to be?

Also, I thought that the ranged weapons are supposed to be used pretty frequently for Vet but they all feel either really weak or super awkward to use (like the Lucius Helbore Lasgun with the charging)

What kinda weapons do Vet players use the most? Cause Vet is like the only class that I just can't get into at all. Always feel like everything I do, Psyker or Zealot do a 100 times better.

Personally, I like the Plasma gun and play my veteran mostly melee and switch to the Plasma to deal with specials/elites as needed. The ammo/heat make it unsuitable for constant use.

I've used the Helbore a lot too and would use if for taking down all ranged enemies, and then switch for anything in melee.

The shock trooper talent makes the ammo economy of laser weapons much better, and allows you to create ranged focused builds, where you only switch to melee when things get real close, extremely viable.
I used to always just run with revolver, but then I switched it up and did the accurate shotgun, with the sniping mode. It's fun cause the special slug can stun the armored & shield ogryns and you can snipe specials with headshots.
I also like the headhunter autogun, the one with single shot, also good for sniping with headshots.

I have to do some boltgun & plasmagun.
Not a fan of lasguns.

I play veteran and I am always down and the big huge guys have to save me.

Veteran completely sucks the only reason I play the trash class is because I like to use the Laser Beam guns

Sorry the Recon LAS Gun that shoots so fast it looks like laser beams from Metal Slug X

Cool ass satisfying build it shows the potential of Dark Tide if the Devs cared about making the game fun and giving you enough Ammo to make this particular gun more viable.

These devs seem to favor melee combat for some god awful reason, this ain't a 3rd Person Game where you can dodge and side roll

Yeah sounds like you need to learn to melee, and that your issue is magdumping into hordes, getting surrounded by them, and dying to their bonks.

Dodge, block, push-attack, and practice your melee weapon's moveset in the psykhanium to discover effective combos.

His strength is literally anything for any situation.

He's the jack of all and master of ranged.

As for weapons the Helbore, Mk1 & 2 are great, but they require a certain skill level to use.

Infantry lasguns are easy to use, fast equip and high damage to most enemies.

Plasma guns Wreck anything in front of them.

Bolter/revolver is good for an elite and boss killer.

Recon lasguns are a bit rubbish right now.

Autoguns depending on which type are good for suppression and horde clearance.

i like the vraxis mk 3 autogun personally, its a three round burst.
really wish krak nades were on a 1 second timer after impact. that 3 second fuse is long enuff for a dense crowd to peel.

Damn, from the posts that I’ve seen so far, Vet doesn’t look bad at all. Definitely gotta practice more with this guy

You’ve brought a good point I’ve been meaning to ask about though. When you play Vet, how do you prioritize melee/ranged when engaging specials/elites/armoreds?

When they’re far away, you pull out the ranged and blast them. That’s simple. But in close range, especially with ragers, I feel super squishy and like my melee isn’t doing enough damage so I get overwhelmed easy. But the powerful guns like Helbore have a pretty long unsheathing animation so then I’m just open for taking lots of damage, especially if the hordes start putting a lot of pressure on you so dodging becomes a bit difficult. On top of the long charging, it’s just out of control.

Every gun probably feels a bit different for each situation, but how do you usually prioritize this with the Helbore and Plasma? Also, which melee combos the best with em? So far I’ve not enjoyed a single melee besides the chain sword (haven’t played in a while so I’m trying all the weapons out in order again).

yeah it usually takes me a good ten to fifteen minutes to get warmed up for the day, but considering one time a few days ago i had to singlehandadly take down a chaos beast and a hoard after my squad dropped (it was on half health t3 match i wanna say? so its not like it was full hp but still) vets do ok.

i usually stay alive by dodging side to side in hoards with melee, and take out elites with my shotgun, but crushes will still wreck you. usually in a single hit. if you get in a situation where the elites got close, you can shove them back, hit, dodge, shove ect. but usually i just shoot the elites first at range, using slugs, then mop up the hoard. the shout is GOAT for vet imo.

That's one of the reasons I tend to take the plasma rather than the helbore. You can switch to it and fire much quicker. So even when in melee with a horde, you can usually manage to quick switch for a shot before going back to melee.

A lot of people tend to pick either the Power Sword or Chainsword at the moment, I prefer the chainsword as it feels like it chunks through hordes a little better.

If you can't kill the rager before they close in, dropping a grenade at your feet can be helpful to knock them down and give you some space. I tend to take the shredder grenade to complement the Plasma Gun. Grenade takes care of squishy groups, Plasma takes care of armoured and single target.
The talent in the middle column that regenerates a grenade every 60s is also extremely handy to have.

Certain melee weapons like the devil claw have a special attack that can stagger them.
Chainsword/axe can also stun them when in the revved up kill animation, this can be dangerous if there are more than one on you though.

Other than that, tag them, block and dodge backwards and hope a team mate takes them out or wait until the end of their combo and then take them down.

Alright thanks for the tips, it’s back to the lab for me then

The Recon Lasgun was always ammo hungry, but the nerfs it got really pushed it over the edge to making it unfun to use.

I use Recon Las on Auric Damnation missions and rarely run out of ammo, I dont even need many ammo pickups.

Take the talents that give you and your team 1% ammo increase on elite kills, the +25% ammo one and the one where laser weapon crits dont cost ammo. Pair it with Deadeye and other +crit% talents and you will rarely run out of ammo even if you never switch to melee. Add burn on crits and you have one of the most powerful and sustainable weapons in the game.

No wonder people think vets are bad if they dont know how to spend their talent points.

Stamina is big problem,it goes too fast and too slow to regen.Even curios with stamina not works.Close fights are too weak if you not careful.

Take the talent that gives you stamina back on dodges. Trust me, it will do wonders.

you is suck
Why does this game need a veteran in its current form, when they took away a bunch of his abilities, when arrows didn’t shoot at him, when he was stopped, they removed the instant reload, they took away the shield, which I can make less than that of an ogryn or a psyker, this is just nonsense . The fanatic has almost all the weapons of the veteran, who are better than him in every way, faster, more mobile, more durable. Why was the veteran given invisibility, which the fanatic has and is much more effective at it. At the moment, the veteran is a useless class, when the fanatic is the same and better in all respects

Shotgun
mark enemies skill
extra crit on distance
krak grenade

oh i get it buddy you been looking at reddit for some op builds, as a good meta slave i imagine it must be frustrating when nerds share and compare their numbers and one of the classes have a lower number, but listen, try stuff, just try stuff please, then cease thy beaching.
