I play alot with Smoke Grenades and throw them on the team when we're fighting for a prolonged period on the same spot.

They guard against Trappers, Hounds, Flamers, Shooters, Gunners, Reapers, and cause melee enemies to be way less aggressive.

With that said, I really want both Grenade regen talents and the 100% duration talent when I run Smoke Grenades. That way I can throw them pretty much ever fight, especially on Mostly Melee.

Something to note about that, it breaks the lock on of the heavy gunners but they will keep shooting were there lock on broke.
Correct! You don't just throw it at your feet and then just stand there, the shooters still "know" where you were last so that's where they're going to fire. BUT. If you toss the grenade a short distance away and then move into it, shooters completely lose you.

So a good use for the grenade is to toss it ahead of you, move into it, then shoot enemy shooters while they struggle to figure out why the cloud of smoke is murdering them. It can also be tossed onto an objective (like a data interrogator spot) when it breaks but before someone moves into it, thus shielding them from shooters and helps keep some pressure off them.

Edit: I do want to say this. Fatshark ALREADY had a good idea of what the smoke grenade SHOULD look like when deployed and it annoys me they don't use it. Just be like Bardin's from Vermintide darn it! It was a clearly marked area, didn't break ally visibility, and you knew for a fact if you were in the effect AND knew the moment it ended! Stop trying to find solutions to problems you already have the solution to! /rant

You are supposed to throw it at the enemy. Its not a wall that prevents shooting through. its to stop NPCs from shooting out.

Or at least that is how i understood it.

gunners really really like to spray at your previously known location

I've seen reapers/gunners straight up spraying a staircase nobody was at because we 'used' to be there and relocated. but the gunner doesn't know that

i'd imagine that smoke grenades make them do the same thing. so if ur hunkered in place ur still getting suppressed/sprayed by them, but if you move slightly, they have no idea.

I throw it on downed allies, if i see a mate is reviving, or toss it into a big fight, when the specials are already called out, to keep the chaff off my mates allowing to burst down bigger fish.
It is cool, but it feels very wonky and bugged right now.

tbh psyker telekines shield is waaay better to protect team from angry bullets, save veteran to have some kraks ready in case of Even Angrier Maulers/Crushers coming at your general direction. Kraks so satisfying.

It's a bubble of soft cover on demand. The key word is soft; it doesn't prevent movement or fire, but punishes enemies that do so through the smoke.

If visibility is already low - such as during a horde, in tight hallways, chokepoints or during fog missions - it can be used to reduce the surprise factor ranged enemies and specialists have, especially disablers who have to get very close to initiate their disable.

It's more effective against ranged enemies though, who will choose from firing at the last place they saw you in the smoke, charging or repositioning in reaction to the smoke. Place the smoke between you and them, a bit closer to you. If it's on them they'll just step out and keep shooting minus the cover, and if it's on you then you can't see anything. Putting it between you forces them to charge or become useless, allow you to move around edge of the smoke if enemies find another angle on you, and guarantees that charging units will be in melee range by the time they see you.

Also run the talents for +100% duration and 1 grenade regenerated every 60s for 100% uptime on smoke, letting you basically just turn off ranged enemies for the entire mission.

Basically, smoke grenades are a hard counter for ranged enemies which I think are one of the bigger potential threats along with specialists who vet already drops easily. It's also pretty much the only way to safely revive someone that goes down in the open with ranged enemies present.

Pretty much drop smoke near myself and allies. Enemies shoot less into the smoke screen and it seems to partially reduce melee enemy aggression.
Could even use it aggressively by throwing one into group of enemies, but haven't had much of chance to do so, as the reduced aggression does nothing if you are very close to the enemy.
