I only prefer Darktide more because of how the raw gameplay loop has more extreme moments. In VT2 I always feel a situation is easily readable and it lost that charm of excitement for me. In Darktide there's always more gunners sneaking up, the specialists deploy faster, and overall feels like a chaotic warzone.
Lacks red weapons, chaos waste mods, way more classes, free cosmetics that don’t look like crusty soiled prisoner clothes, maps that actually feel different. And likeable characters.
You're going to have to wait a couple years more. They haven't even added in any new content yet, just been focused on fixing the game and padding up the previously shallow mechanics to something mediocre.
Maybe in another year or two we'll actually get new classes as promised and a trickle of other content like maps, specials, and weapons.
Thing is, it shouldn't be anywhere near Vermintide. This was and should be an evolution forward for them, not a match for Vemrintide, though honestly they failed even that.
Dark Tide I actually enjoy the moment to moment gameplay more. It has (in my opinion) a better sound track and the theme is stronger (and I say that as a WH:f fan more than a 1h:40k fan).
However it still feels VERY incomplete. No solo play. No ability to customise the bots (and you will be seeing the bots at this point forward). No ability to select missions beyond the random rota on the board (though there are at least more options now). And some of the weapons still just don't quite do what they feel like they should.
Also the new progression system, while a DRASTIC improvement in terms of build verity and options, has some blatant exploits which will no doubt need a long strong of balance patches.
But to be honest I don't think the game going to improve much from this point. Perhaps the console launch will bring boatloads of profit and thus more content. But generally I think the player base is going to decline (and console players are WAY less helpfully communicative in a match so probably worse to have as the majority of randoms), so you're probably better of playing now than waiting if you want to play at all.
Darktide is coming along. This update is very promising in terms of gameplay. Now need more variety of maps, etc
