Venting plasma gun question
OK I'm probably VERY late to the party on this as I don't play sharpshooter all that much but... Recently I'd started using plasma gun a lot and I just learned that if you overload and it's about to explode, you can hip-fire/attack and it'll emergency vent 10-15%...not enough to keep firing but enough to keep you from dying....

...only, this doesn't work ALL the time, does anyone know the "rules" to this mechanic? when can/can't I left click when exploding to save myself?

So you can only overcharge the plasma gun with charged shots. Hip fire shots just vents it for you. If you are talking about your plasma gun already overcharged and your boi is shaking it in his hands because it's gonna explode that would be a bug since some people have had it happen before where it just randomly vents instead of exploding.

Background, someone in a game told me about it overcharging and doing a quick left-click and "problem solved!" I tried it out in the next few matches for testing and it worked almost every time, but I couldn't figure out what exactly makes it 'not' work...

I am talking about when it's overcharged and my character is shaking it and screaming and it's in the overload situation, sometimes I can click to save myself, sometimes I can't.

Yeah, only charged shot (RMB+LMB) above 100% heat leads to an explosion.

Hipfire (LMB) never explodes, it will auto-vent above 100% heat.

Plasma weapons were designed with one simple idea, that the weapon was more valuable than the being firing it. As a result they can overheat, and in lieu of becoming a bomb, they instead vent the excess ionized gas into the surrounding area. That the surrounding area was previously occupied by a living creature is largely irrelevant, as the important thing is that the weapon remains intact to fire again. In Warhammer 40k (the tabletop game) this overheating mechanism is represented by a mechanic based on the hit roll. If you roll 1...it's game over. So I guess in order to represent that mechanic here, they probably gave it a 50-50 chance. I could be wrong, but I think it's intended and not a bug.
P.S
I mean the charged shot, when you're about to die not the hip fire. I've been saved too sometimes, when I though I'd blowup.

Works all the time for me. I can only imagine it might be tied to server performance if it doesn't work, but as long as you hipfire it emergency vents. If you charge for any reason you overload.

The issue is the servers are so poor that sometimes when you frantically left click it will sometimes assume you just press-hold instead of clicked, charging up a heavy attack (you can observe this while meleeing or when you attempt to do special action strikes, and then suddenly are stuck in a heavy attack that won't auto release). This is due to a desnyc between server and your client.

When it gets to frantic, change over to your melee weapon or disengage backwards a bit to be able to slow down your shots a bit to avoid the issue. Buggy game is buggy.

News to me that you can prevent the Plasmagun overload. Don't think that is intended. Psyker Overload can be prevented with their Class Special, but to my knowledge there is nothing preventing the Plasmagun overload.

The Emergency Overload protection happens when you fire uncharged shots. It will then autovent when you would go over 100% instead of release a shot. It will drop enough for 2 more hipfire shots when this happens (i think this depends on your Vent stat), but if you charge your Plasma Gun for whatever reason and it goes over 100% you go boom no matter what. At least that is my experience.

If you mash the vent peril keybind just as you enter 100% perils you'll vent and avoid the explosion. This was fixed but one of these recent updates lifted it again. Back to spamming lightning til my fingers bleed.
