Background, someone in a game told me about it overcharging and doing a quick left-click and "problem solved!" I tried it out in the next few matches for testing and it worked almost every time, but I couldn't figure out what exactly makes it 'not' work...
I am talking about when it's overcharged and my character is shaking it and screaming and it's in the overload situation, sometimes I can click to save myself, sometimes I can't.
Hipfire (LMB) never explodes, it will auto-vent above 100% heat.
P.S
I mean the charged shot, when you're about to die not the hip fire. I've been saved too sometimes, when I though I'd blowup.
Works all the time for me. I can only imagine it might be tied to server performance if it doesn't work, but as long as you hipfire it emergency vents. If you charge for any reason you overload.
The issue is the servers are so poor that sometimes when you frantically left click it will sometimes assume you just press-hold instead of clicked, charging up a heavy attack (you can observe this while meleeing or when you attempt to do special action strikes, and then suddenly are stuck in a heavy attack that won't auto release). This is due to a desnyc between server and your client.
When it gets to frantic, change over to your melee weapon or disengage backwards a bit to be able to slow down your shots a bit to avoid the issue. Buggy game is buggy.
News to me that you can prevent the Plasmagun overload. Don't think that is intended. Psyker Overload can be prevented with their Class Special, but to my knowledge there is nothing preventing the Plasmagun overload.
The Emergency Overload protection happens when you fire uncharged shots. It will then autovent when you would go over 100% instead of release a shot. It will drop enough for 2 more hipfire shots when this happens (i think this depends on your Vent stat), but if you charge your Plasma Gun for whatever reason and it goes over 100% you go boom no matter what. At least that is my experience.
