What’s going on!?

I haven’t been playing for a while, but thought I’d come back and have a look. . . and. . . oh dear.

I see the devs have finally admitted that the old penances were ruining multiplayer games - and now players are forced do them in private games. . . This. . . doesn’t. . . make. . . any. . . sense. . . granted I see what they’re trying to do. But why does Fat Shark’s multiplayer shooter have features that can only be completed in private lobbies?! It goes completely against the spirit of a multiplayer game!! . . Just get rid of the penances and sell them as cosmetics!! Or re-work the old penances so they are fun and achievable in multiplayer games. . . Don’t worry about upsetting existing players who have already completed them, according to Steamcharts most of them have left any way.

And, wow - the cosmetic awards for the new penances are, terrible!! Did Games Workshop tell Fatshark they can no longer used licensed uniform designs!? Why is everything either another prison outfit, or something that doesn’t look like it belongs in the 40k universe? When I heard a ‘Kriegerhelm’ was one of the new penance rewards I got excited, but immediately despaired when I saw it. Do the developers even know what a Kreigsman looks like?!??! I’m genuinely confused why something that looks like a bicycle helmet with googles and a facemask is being called a Kriegerhelm.

And we still can’t get the decent looking veteran helmet from the title screen?!?! Argh!

I don’t get it, I’m a ravenous 40k fan that wants to throw money at this game, and I don’t think I’m the only one. . . But there’s just nothing here for me.

I mean, gameplay is fantastic, and acquiring items has gotten a lot better. . . and I’m still rooting for this game. . . but I hope next time I come back there’s actually something for me to get excited about. rather than just leaving and feeling frustrated.

Yea just give it a bit more time, at the end of this month there is content update, at least 1 new map will be dropping, as for the new outfits, yea.. i am not a fan.

But at least for the veteran, don't you earn a helmet similar from the title screen ? i think that is the best cosmetic from the new penances.

I would like same from Tutorial and title screen. With same gasmask, but black and on IG helmet. Not "similar". And this book on 3-d screenshot:

And replaced them with penances that will make you hate your teammates with the firy passion of a thousand suns.

I never felt the old penances to be an issue, but i never hated my teammates as much as i did with the new ones.

Like Preacher... you see an Elite, storm at it, and pop goes its head, because the Psyker and the Veteran were quicker... or as Veteran, you put on Volley Fire, start sniping and your Zealot and Ogryn dance infront of your potential 2nd Elite kill, or the Psyker murders that Ogryn you needed for your series of two, that you had been working on with a brain burst.

The new penances really made me loath my teammates. Fortunately i am done with them and never need to revisit them... but yeah... most toxic penances ever.

Except there are no "mtx" (whatever mtx is) options. Not to mention that, and i assume you mean paid for cosmetics, are ugly as sin too.

nah its a different helmet and the body armour isn't in yet as well
there is no flak armour in the game with a gorget.

good guess tho, i was in fact referring paid cosmetics. while they certainly hardly worth the price, they're leagues better than free ones and i imagine people would never touch latter had former became obtainable through penances.

fyi mtx is an acronym to microtransactions which means business model where consumer buys (optional) virtual goods for real money, cosmetics is usually the most common and least harmful kind of mtx.

All those skins are in game already and not only that they also have recolors of thos skins but for some reason unlocking them from the depths of the game is the hardest thing to do for the devs. Easy wins are hard I guess

Again - that only works if attractive counterparts exist in the Cash Shop. Currently, they do not, and it doesn't seem like there will be new items there for a long time still.

They admitted the penance thing a while ago but released the fix recently. Unfortunately everything takes time in a game like this.

All this could have been avoided had they taken what worked in V2 and built on that, but I suspect the intent of Darktide was to produce a souless cash cow and I fully expect us all to go through this merry-go-round again if V3 is ever a thing.

Sadly agree.

The whole Penance situation is even worse when you take into account that FS tried this already and it equally backfired spectacularly w/ their 4th career skins in V2. Same horrible challenges, same backlash.

There's literally no excuse as to how they could think this was a good idea outside of straight up arrogance or greed. Feels bad man.

"TX" is a globally used abbreviation for transaction, treatment, and transfer and has been around for a LOOONG time. It has nothing to do w/ slang and is pretty common knowledge.

It's not (M)icro (T)ransaction (X).... it's (M)icro (TX)ransaction.
