I couldn't tell either. Thanks decadence.

If I remember correctly, Decadence's description applies to brittleness, rending is the armour piercing of your weapon.

Basically -

Rending = Buff for your gun against armour
Brittleness = Debuff for enemies using armour

Up to a maximum of 50% i believe, if i recall that correctly.

Maximum is 8 stacks and this applies to brittleness/rending and +damage coming from blessings like Skullcrusher.

Rending and Brittleness are the same thing, just different wording to confuse people.

Some blessings apply rending to your oponent which means the whole team benefits from it while others apply the buff to yourself / your weapon meaning only you take advantage from it, but in terms of numbers they are exactly the same. One is good for teamwork but requires you apply it to everything by hitting them personally first, meaning your first hit is always going to deal reduced damage; The other is always up for yourself as long as you keep refreshing the condition much like +power blessings.

Each stack allows you to ignore 5% of the armor tier up to 8 stacks.

A weapon that comes close to fully ignoring a certain armor type benefits very little from the reduction since the maximum you are able to ignore is 100%.

Certain weapons (piercing) like the plasma gun and axes already have high inherent armor piercing values.

Rending/Brittleness only apply to flak and carapace armor types.

Many weapons have decent'ish armor reduction avoidance against flak already but most are severelly hampered by carapace. If you are thinking of using rending to deal primarily with flak foes you might be disapointed by the tiny increments in damage against them, but it all depends on the weapon you plan to use it on.

Don't want to believe me because I stink? Well, here, read this instead:

and this

Though do keep in mind that the damage bug referenced in this last link has been fixed already.

Brittleness and Rending aren't named to confuse people, ffs.

They're named to differentiate their effects.

Rending is a self buff, it applies to your own attacks against that enemy; Brittleness is a group buff, it applies to everyone's attacks vs that enemy. They both apply 5% armor penetration per stack.

Both of those blessings can apply to any weapon while the buff is active. Only brittleness is active for other players. The 'rending' from trauma is apparently 'brittleness' instead.

This is lame, shouldn't they add description for each stat ? Like how am I gonna guess what " wounds " does? First time I read it, I thought it means that it applies bleed on the enemies because you know, " wounds " ... instead it gives you one more chance to get up from being downed.

See, asking for clarifications about what stats do gets you a comment of "git gud" from the community management team. I distinctly remember one of them responding like this to people asking for clarification on what weapon stats did - such as WTF "finesse" is. That was before the tooltips were added.

Well, all of the info has been in game since beta. You just had to inspect the weapon. Inspecting the weapon has always had tooltips over the modifier values.

I'd put money down that there are as many people unaware of the Inspect function as there are unaware that all the released cosmetics are all still in the store on pages you can scroll through.
