Bull Butcher Cleaver with Confident Strike and Slaughterer, is the meta. Slaughterer is optional, Confident Strike is a must or you'll struggle on Damnation keeping your toughness supplied in a horde. The heavy attack traits you have ain't just cutting it anymore on Tier 5.
Shovel and Bully Club with Confident Strike and Skull Crusher or Thunderous, are a little weaker, but will quickly catch up once you are inside the horde. They just don't work as well as the Butcher, but are liked by a lot of people.
Maul is only really an option if you have other ways to deal with the Horde. Its well paired with the Rumbler or the Grenade Gauntlet. Its mostly just good for 1v1 enemy Ogryns, tho.
The movement set on the Krourk Cleavers makes them pretty bad, unfortunately, but they pair well with heavy attacks. If you get one with Momentum IV, and lean all into heavy attacks, it might work. But its a lot of work compared to the more responsive and satisfying Bull Butcher.
All in all, there are optimal choices but no best. While BB definitely covers most of the bases, without decent anti-armor in your team you can get into a weird spot against bunch of crushers.
I wouldn't go that far. Its a good horde clear but best? Eh... Heavy Sword and Combat Axes do a better job.
They can't get even close to it without perfect blessing combo, not talking about stats.
I've tried a few clubs out, but I can't seem to get the hang of it. They just don't feel as good as a cleaver or shovel.
Perfect being that even 1 tier 1 blessing turns the Antax in a horde clearer. Where a ogryn will apply stagger to quite alot of enemies and knock them about, the zealot with a Antax will actually be killing faster.
Bull butcher is a amazing weapon. But a Antax is just more killy and can actually handle enemy Crushers.
If Bull Butcher staggers horde instead of slicing it with each hit then you're definitely doing something wrong.
I can just spam LMB and run thru it, on any difficulty.
And with Ripper 'Can Opener" it's easy to remove Crusher in 2 taps on Damnation difficulty (why even waste time to melee it?!)

Didn't even require a lot of Cleave Damage stat
