Now a game where you have to fight custodes...that would be interesing. Like some eldar trying to break into the palace because you know, eldar diplomacy.
Anything you could do with the custodes would be more interesting with a regular spess marine.
Custodes are so much more limiting than SM
Darktide is however official, just like Vermintide before it, they are recognized canon, Darktide even had actual GW representative (Matt Ward himself) oversee it, they had multiple Black Library authors officially write short stories for Darktide, Dan Abnett himself design Moebian Domain and our enemies.

Yeeeah a first person shooter is probably not the best POV for an imperial guard game. Like you said, probably an RTS, or even an epic-scale game. Epic 40k Final Liberation remake, anyone? They remade chaos gate (sort of, more like reused the title), so it's not *completely* out of the question, especially with that new heresy-era tabletop epic remake.
