Why do we have to work for the bad guys?
We have bolters and all kinds of other strong weapons in our arsenal that can blast armies of soldiers into gore.

When are we gonna turn them on these evil, corrupt Empire people that imprisoned us in the first place? I would love a new faction to fight against.

In WH40K, everyone is the bad guys. Either you fight for an empire that enslaves you and forces you to fight through propaganda to a "god emperor", or you are (un)willingly corrupted and become a mindless/angry/lustful zombie. It's kinda like choosing if you'd rather fight with people who manipulate you (at least they are humans), or with some alien demons who mess with your body and manipulate you just the same.
The imperium are the good guys, anyone who says otherwise is really stupid.

Hate to burst your bubble, but if you think the Imperium are supposed to be the good guys, you've missed some very important points about the setting.

Shooting the evil Empire as well as Chaos with gameplay like this would make for a pretty kickass game, though.

The real issue with rebelling against the Empire in 40k is there isn't really any even half decent alternative. As a human in the setting who is fed up with the Imperium's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ you have three options:

The first is to join up with one of the very few other factions that even tolerate humans; your options being pretty much exclusively Chaos and the Tau. Either way your standard of living isn't exactly likely to be improving (your just trading the inquisition for getting your soul eaten or being sterilized and enslaved) and on top of that you'll now be kill on sight for any loyalists.

The second, even worse option, is to try and go it alone. Even if you managed to somehow get out of the grasp of the empire, you'd then be easy pickings for any of the huge multitude of things that want to screw over humans in 40k... not to mention that the Empire itself is going to want you gone too. Even a whole system banding together to go rogue would likely be wiped out within a year or two by the Tyranids, Dark Eldar, Orks, Daemons, Tau, etc.

The third option, which is the only real sane choice and the one that most of the characters in-game seem to have resigned themselves to, is to stay part of the Imperium despite it's many many faults, and try to do as much good as you can within the confines of the corrupt brutal and decaying system it has turned into... all the while trying to avoid pushing things too far, at risk of getting Inquisitioned.

One of the major themes of the setting is that it's kind of a ♥♥♥♥ situation all around.
Exploring these options would make for an interesting narrative from a player's perspective.

Go away heretic, shoo
Nah. Not today.
How about a setting or separate game where you go it alone and fight against the Imperium and the other factions ? So far no one has made a game like that. It will be a good idea to.
But why would FS/DT be the game that does that.

Like if they add stuff to Darktide it should be stuff tha make sense for it
I hope they make Battlefield: Stalingrad that allows you to fight both the evil Nazis and Communists! I don't want to fight for the bad guys!

what if another inquisitor showed up who thought grendel tolerating the obviously heretical nature of some of the player voices is indication of corruption and they have an inquisitor fight?

Why would you want to play as the Tau?

I've discussed ideas like that before. It could also be a bigger Imperium force that arrives later, which has been ordered to just purge everyone as an alternative away from performing exterminatus on the planet, due to its military value. The targets would be the cultists but also include the prisoners and the Inquisitors that conscripted them, due to suspicion of traitors in their midst and their common better-safe-than-sorry approach when it comes to dealing with a threat like that. The force could even arrive with some space marines to boot just to make it even more crazy and fun.

There absolutely would not be a attack on the Inquisitor. It takes a Inquisitorial Lord and a entire conclave to condemn a single Inquisitor. No, anyone under the Inquisitor is safe.

Playing as a Tau conscript would be fun if they could make it work narrative-wise, which I admittedly doubt is possible. It would however be a fun homage to the Fire Warrior game from 2003 and the banter between the characters would be interesting.
