As far as I can tell, psykinetic is a word made up for darktide and not the adjective form of "psyker." The description of the class definitely does seem to imply they intended to lean into kinesis as well.
I guess that's meant to be what brain burst is doing, using magically applied kinetic force to explode heads. Definitely an underwhelming kit if you go into it wanting that sort of thing.
Zealot - Preacher
Psyker- Psykinetic
Ogryn- Skullbreaker
Veteran - Sharpshooter
The question is pretty clearly about why they chose that name.
Fatshark making up new Psyker terms makes me think we wont be seeing anything like a Biomancer/Pyromancer/Telekin/Diviner/Telepath based class. They are not going that route with the Psyker. Instead we will see a Gun focused Psyker and a Melee focused Psyker later down the road. The Psykinetic is basically the "caster" focused version of the Psyker.
While stuff like Brain Burst, Deflection, Trauma staff explosion and Palpatine staff actually belong to Telekinetic powers (Crush/Deflection/Gravity Well/Phychic Maelstrom).
Yeah this is due to the destruction of cadia increasing the general number of psykers as well as the average power level of psykers
