I don't know anything about 40k, at all.
I love this game though, I don't want to burden any of you with the task of lore, but I can't lie if I said I'd appreciate it.

Why am I a reject? who am I fighting for, and why?

i may also suggest looking up "ARCH" on youtube, he has HOURS upon HOURS of lore exposition videos

1.
You got Imprisoned for a Crime you might have committed or not.
Hence why you are a Reject.

2.
You Fight for the God Emperor of Man.
Which is the Emperor of Mankind and which (much to his own disliking) is Worshipped as a God in the Imperium.
Now. While he may dislike it. His Power is such that the Idea of him being a God is not exactly an unlikely scenario.



Now.
People in the Imperium are heavily indoctrinated into this Belief into the God Emperor.
Including Daily Prayer Routines etc.

Your Character thefefore despite his Imprisonment remains Loyal to the Emperor.


You now Serve the Inquisition.
Which is a Power tasked with Protecting the Imperium from Internal Threats.
From Rebellion to Chaos Infestations.
Due to this Task the Inquisition has nearly unlimited Authority in the Imperium and is placed only below the Emperor himself in the Hierachy.
Hence why you have access to alot of Information and Equipment normally not available to Imperial Soldiers.



Its just a Short Summay skipping over the Gigantic Lore.
But it may help you understand the setting a bit better.

the already mentioned https://www.youtube.com/@Luetin09 has a full on lore in order playlist on his channel with many hours of fantasticly narrated content, if youre really gettin interested.

tl;dr the 40k universe is probably the most over the top dystopian nightmare fuel setting you can possibly find. very deep and interesting.
