the "ON OVERWATCH" Achievement is insane
with how this game works a full mission of not getting nicked by melee is a hair pulling frustrating experience, was it made to be just pure pain to push people to visit the shop instead?

It kind of does fly in the face of how the game is designed.

No, 'cause the progression stuff for veteran looks better than the shop stuff. Just wait until you have to do heresy + 100% accuracy + no remaining ammo when extracting for the next helmet.

I think the penance is trying to encourage you to stack toughness buffs, at 250 toughness you can take a couple of thwacks without taking actual health damage

Hate to say it but on overwatch is genuinely an easy penance. Like another guy here said, make every shot count is wayyy worse. At least you have toughness for on overwatch.. The other one demands you finish a mission with no ammo and 100% accuracy... with a passive that gives you ammo on elite kills. Wanna talk about something flying in the face of the game, it's having to fight your own passive, not avoiding getting hit.

Agreed. This one is even "gameish", not getting hit.

But the ammo one, the psyker killing a boss alone with bb, ogryn bashing 6 ogres and some other are a pain and no fun at all.

At least two of the hardest ones were abused before patch (people going offline) otherwise whole forum would be complaining, xd

I'm damn sure you can't even take toughness damage in melee for the achievement to work.

Only one whack. Toughness blocks a percentage of damage proportional to it's remaining percentage, not actual value. At full toughness you can take a hit with no health damage. At 75% you will block - yep, 75%. And so on.

Use camo feat, play an assassination mission on low intensity, tell your team you are going for the penance, hide with your melee block up at all times.

It's a pain but if anyone on your team says no tell them they are a puny if they can't handle the challenge of playing with a man down.

Alternatively I heard there's an exploit you can still use; jump off a ledge and die in the beginning and do not be revived, have the other 3 finish the mission and get the penance.

To any Vets in the thread interested in the second option you can feel free to send me a friend request, I will try to kill the boss with just 3. If we can get a few vets needing the penance we can run it a few times in turns so you all can get it.

But isn't challenge a good thing?

It's doable now after they reworked toughness and with the warning sound when you are about to get hit working as intended.
In the pre-order beta it was insane for real beacuse every melee hit gave you cheap damage even at full toughness and there wasn't any warning sound for attacking enemies, but now when you are at 100% toughness you can get a free hit without losing health.

Just stay in the rearguard of your team, watch your back and pay attention to ranged fire (if they hit you, you lose toughness and you'll take some dmg if hit in melee), try to keep you toughness at 100% all the time and you'll be fine. Picking the camouflage feat and the toughness regeneration when you are more than 8 meters from an enemy helps. Having a good team helps a lot too and assassination missions are the best to try this penance since you can hide in a corner during the bossfight and shoot from there.

Right now, that's true of every class - with the possible exception of the Ogryn,

"Make every shot count" it's actually easy if you do it with a plasma gun, it took me just about 3 tries.
Just use your charged shot against ogryns and elite when you are sure to hit them, then when an horde pop up shot at it as much as you can, try to stay at really low ammo, if near the end you reach 0 try to stay out of cohesion from your team and let them take care of specials and elites (that should negate your passive). Then if by any chance you regain some ammo, wait for the extraction run (when in most maps an horde appear) and shot all your remaining ammo at it.
The biggest problems are actually your teammates shoting at the same target as you, since if they kill it they cause you to miss, thus it's easier if you are the only sharpshoter of the team or are playing with friends.

alt+f4 at extraction and have a team willing to wait for you to rejoin

Maybe you're right, I just know when I got it I had 296 toughness and I recall taking several hits at once without it causing health damage.
