Tencent owns fatshark huh?
Cool, guess I'm not buying the game. 40 dollars for an unfinished game that more then likely has chinese spyware attached sounds like the last thing I want to spend my money on.

I've seen people complain about Tencent a lot on multiple games.
Is the hate they get exaggerated, or is it within reason?

as a chinese company working directly under the communist party, they are required by chinese law to collect user data and send it back to china for the party to use / sell it however they please
fatshark most likely has a dedicated data collection agent from tencent in their office

No, Tencent doesn't OWN Fatshark.

Tencent have aquired a majority stake in available Fatshark shares (Owning just over 30% of the shares, though I'm not sure if thats common stock, voting stock or preferred stock (for example) that they own). But there's still a huge difference.

Any information tencent gets goes directly through the Chinese intelligence agencies. Tencent also acts as an arm of the CCP, intelligence, and various groups that aren't what you'd call friendly to non communist nations. There's a reason they're on ban lists in other nations.

Tencent enforces their will, ie the communist party's will, via owning "just" a majority share. This is a proven fact, and one that's been replicated time and time and time again. The second tencent is involved A.T. A.L.L. the company is tainted to an irreparable degree.

Don't worry about too much, your data is already compromised no matter what. There's a lotta problems with the game but this is the least of them.

It's staggering the lengths people will go to deny reality if it doesn't match their ideal communist paradise. Chinese companies, whether they want to be or not, are forced to be an arm of the CCP's Intel agencies. Theres an explicit reason that any western company is FORCED to work through one of these companies, like tencent.
