How do you expect Fatshark to maintain the servers and update the game?
That costs money. It is so simple. Or are the salaries for those working on this game gonna stop after a while when the sales have ended?

Yes, they have added microtransactions. For cosmetics! If you are so against it do not buy the cosmetics. Don't spend a effin dime on it!

I am so sick of entitled bratty kids who want everything: "NOW; FREE AND JUST HOW I WANT IT". Where do you all come from?

They know what they're doing - the game costs less than AAA standards (partially) because it's meant to reel you in and lower the threshold of spending additional money later.

If companies are so inept (which they rarely are) that they can't take their future into account when pricing products then that's on them - I'd rather pay more upfront or buy the additional content that I want later to avoid all these excuses and schemes that are meant to extract more than a singular game purchase could ever bring in.

I think you need to realise its not entitled when back in the day that's how games were. Its the studios who are constantly shifting the deal and giving less and less in the base game.

Yeah it's whiny but if you regularly went to a baker and bought a loaf of bread that kept shrinking over the years you'd be a whiny ♥♥♥♥♥ about it too

"Back in the day," when there were no ongoing services provided for the game, and the studio would just immediately move onto their next project instead of being expected to provide ongoing service and support. Online games have ongoing costs. Would you prefer a subscription, where you get nothing but access to the game, or the option to spend nothing unless you really want a specific in-game item and can justify its cost? Because I'll tell you what people by and large prefer and support with their wallets, and it's the reason so many games go f2p with mtx now.
ah yes, its not a game, its a service. 10/10

I imagine the same way Deep Rock Galactic does it, who continues to be both successful and well received.

People don't seem to realize how much backend upkeep costs. I'm a cloud architect and some of my clients drop tens of millions of dollars a month just on Azure services. That doesn't even include my team's compensation. Software engineering is exponentially more expensive than it was even a decade ago. With that said, having to buy a currency before buying a cosmetic is absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Give us the price in USD and lose the timer. I'm fine with paid cosmetics to support continued development but not when it's done like this.

I have over 4k hours in Hunt Showdown and have bought every piece of DLC they have put out to support the game. My issue is that HOW THE ♥♥♥♥ is it at this state after a year of delays and 2 betas? How? Is it 2 unpaid interns working on this game or what?

Btw. I'm working in gamedev and there are still some AAA games with no microtransactions and regular free updates so gtfo with that argument.

Id rather pay full price and get a game with everything unlockabke in game, no silly shop, just a well made game with nothing in it egregiously monetised.

It'll never happen.

Profit is the motive.

There are simps and whales who will spend an arm and a leg on virtual items with fake in game currency that is controlled by the developers and not regulated by any governments.

This isn't about passing on costs, this is about greed.

A large portion of the player base is extremely young and naive and its a bit sad to see them white knighting for a company that wishes to extort them but whatever.

Im on the same boat and i disagree, please do name at least one of those AAA game (especially with online multiplayer function) and most of them is just as scummy as this one on front or back side of the door

only if there is no online service OR if they have pay content coming up ( dlc/expension)
unless you mean like minor update like fixing a few thing/bug but clearly no aditional content , balance etc

Returnal, sure the original price is steep but the game received numerous decent sized updates, 1 with tons of content (new mode and co-op).

Published by Sony Interactive, i mean your company should be fine under their banner as long as they still remember your team existence.
How would i know? mine is a looong-looong-looong parent company of Tencent. Years of working with them make me realize that nearly all of us get payed with something that we didn't like.

At least the paycheck is good

This is what i have been saying. I understand they may need the cash to keep the game going. Its likely. But we don't have to *like* the way they are doing it. And frankly, it's also easy to say "if you don't like it, don't buy it"

But i do like the game. Despite the issues, i can see myself maybe getting some aquaillas to support the devs somewhere down the line. But i dont want to do the stupid aquilla system that is designed with fomo and the just downright scummy prices compared to what you can buy. Theres nuance here. But, i would be MUCH more likely to just do a straight transaction. Its not that the skin costs 5 bucks. It's that i have to pay 6 bucks to get the 5 bucks, leaving me with a dollar that is now sunk, if i dont purchase more aquillas. These numbers arent whats in the game, because i havent looked at the costs more than confirming its this way.

It's not mine, just a random recent example.

Great example

I think the real issue is that people didn't get the game they expected, so they feel a cash shop on-top of that is just exploitation. If the game launched in a perceived better state, there might be less people complaining. Or there might be the same exact number of people complaining, I don't know. I only really take issues with cash shops when they hit Diablo Immortal levels of stupid, or it's a focus pre-launch. Live service games do need a way to maintain themselves long-term.
GodDam 2022 年 12 月 1 日 上午 8:59
The money they got from us whom purchased the game? Ill tell you right now i have no problem with them selling cosmetic, I have a problem with them min maxing premium currency so you can only short on money or have extra left. Even GGG wouldnt do this.
