Some have two or three arms. I believe the amount of arms depends on the "generation" of the creature inside the cult.

Depends on what generation they are. The earliest ones will have the most tyranid DNA so they'll likely have four arms but later generations look more and more like the populace they're trying to impersonate to make it easier to infiltrate society.
