cocking the bolt gun
so sorry if this has already been covered, but I like the boltgun it is good but the cocking on weapon draw seem the massive draw back, not only have you ♥♥♥♥♥♥ it ready when you put it away you then have to ♥♥♥♥ it ready on weapon draw... how have those marines survived this long wither such a preamble to use the thing. like every other gun it is ready to use on draw?

apparently C o c k and c o ck ing nto allowed to fill in the blanks
Veteran have no such issue. Insta draw with ulty
Me, personally, even having 20+30% reload speed, prefer to reload it with ulti also.

The longer draw animation, slide rack etc are to balance the gun. It's one of, if not the best guns in the game and is very capable of deleting anything short of a Monstrosity in a single magazine, so it has a very slow and painful draw time in order to prevent it simply invalidating all challenge in fights as soon as you bring it out.

Marine boltguns, like all things Marine, are larger than life. Bigger, better and nastier than even the finest stuff a Human can use, too large to even get your hand around the grip, too heavy for an unaugmented human to lift or aim. It's not stretching disbelief too far to think their superior version of the gun is a superior pattern and doesn't always require that action.

If you want to draw something as quick as autopistol, you'd have to use autopistol.

The strongest and heavier the weapon, the longer draw and reload for it.

Its called balance, but I would not accuse you of possessing that knowledge.

I get it is retarded and makes absolutely zero sense considering you'd be ejecting rounds every time you ♥♥♥♥♥♥ the weapon when loaded; however, game balance. That bolter is a beast when cutting into almost anything. It wrecks hordes and specials pretty damn easy. Wish they would figure out a different way to balance other than a really dumb animation that makes zero sense but here we are.

Wracking the bolt to load a round in every single time when a round is already loaded is dumb pure and simple. However yes it is only for balance but it doesn't make it less stupid.

That's the point, it's to gimp it so it isn't too op.

What, it's simply a fully semiautomatic bolt action self propelled munitions launcher with a 30 clip magazine, shouldn't be too hard to figure it out. 😤

But really though, they gave it these long animations in order to balance out its immense firepower, like they did with many of the other powerful weapons. You'll find that much weaker weapons in turn have faster animations.

And even if Space Marines used these exact same pattern boltguns(which they don't) they would be reloading them faster and much more easily due to being the kind of enhanced supersoldiers they are.

Pretend you are checking the chamber.

The machine spirit must be appeased. Skipping the ritual of the bolt rack will anger it, and Hadron will turn you into a janitorial servitor for angering the spirit of the holy bolter.

I think it being coupled with the ult is intended design for a lot of slow firing weapons. The Plasma also has insanely long reload times and is Veteran exclusive for probably that reason.

It's unfortunate. For balancing they could have added a safety (which I doubt because of GW and model alterations).. or maybe you say a short prayer to the Omnissiah when you draw it... idk something to give it the same ready time without racking the bolt
LinkZeppeloyd Nov 29, 2022 @ 4:50am
I understand it and agree with it except in one scenario.

If you pull out your Bolter, and it’s enpty… you should just reload the clip, then rack. That’s not what happens.

Instead, you…. rack the slide… then reload… then rack it AGAIN!

I mean come on, that is beyond “balance” into silly time. Its so annoying.

The delayed ready time is intended to balance the power of the weapon. It intentionally prevents you from being able to quick switch to it in hectic situations. The flamer and several other weapons have a similar long ready time.

I agree the animation itself of doing the same thing each time is a bit dumb, but then this is 40k where nobody understands tech and the guy may have been told that in order to appease the machine spirits one must ♥♥♥♥ the gun everytime.
