Map rotation is the dumbest idea ever.
Are we even sure it's the same developers from Vermintide 2? This game has so many incredibly stupid design choices it makes me wonder if the devs ever playtested them.

What's up with the map rotation? Why can't we at least pick the difficulty we wanna play in?

The map pool is already incredibly dilluted with only 4 maps to the point you can rarely find the map+difficulty combination you want without some meme modifier thrown in the mix. Imagine how unplayable it will become once they toss in the other 9 missions lmao.

I guess it's to make it feel more like 'mission popup priority needs'. ya know, to simulate it being a living world.

Yeah, it's trash. Hopefully they give us something to choose maps, I'd rather it didn't cost a currency, but they might go that route like Payday 2 did.

FS forcing ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of live service, completely unnecessarily real time features into the game was the worst decision ever for DT.

It's probably because it prevents people from ONLY running 1 map / mission combo because it's "the best/fastest to farm weapon drops in."

This way it at least guarantees that every map and mission type will have a squad available (necessary, given that we cant do solo play with bots atm)

I also don’t understand the point of the rotation. Nor the easier/harder conditions.
Rather have the maps ala vermintide and a chaos waste mode with random maps and conditions.

That's actually a good point. I only ran like 3 or 4 maps over and over in VT2

Yes God forbid people play the maps they like in a game they paid money for.

hows people minmaxing farming bad thing? let everyone play as they want, its not like u can trade the weapons, and no competitive kind of mode exists either. This is such a bs reason for game like DT

For Beta version, the final version should be around 13 missions across 5 zones rotation per day (It's on news tab btw)

Oh My God can you people not shut up about IT'S JUST A BEEEETA.
Please answer; If the map pool is already this dilluted with only 4 PLAYABLE MAPS to the point you can't even find Map + Difficulty you want without a modifier, what do you think is going to happen once they add 7 more maps in?

I didn't say it was necessarily a bad thing to min / max. But when there are penances that REQUIRE players to play certain mission types & maps, if all the players are only doing one map and mission, it'd be impossible for new players to complete all the penances - at least until the option for solo play is added.

Thus, the current mission style is ALSO not necessarily a bad thing, if it encourages players to play every available map and mission type, and not just a single one.

Especially when you also look at the setting. The missions are meant to feel like an active warzone, with changing objectives and operations based on the actions of the enemy. As opposed to Vermintide, where it was more a static story told through the missions.

I don't think random people completing missions or not should be anyone's problem. If anything, this just shows how Fatshark's systems are so convoluted and needlessly complicated with the intent of selling microtransactions in the future, to the point they gimped everything else that was functional in Vermintide in order to do so.

Lastly, 'immersion' is a very poor reason to severely limit player choice. Specially if you think repeating the same 3 missions over and over and over throughout the day is immersive.

Map rotation is similar to other games (mainly DRG); it encourages people to not abuse the meta of "this map is fastest for X" or "Y are always located in XYZ locations" - I will say the cycle is a bit long (in DRG it's a half hour cycle iirc) - other than that, it's a fine system, plenty of other issues to address aside from this non-issue.
Watercrown123 Nov 22, 2022 @ 6:45pm
Agreed. I did some quick math, let's assume I really want to play that Dust mission (which I actually do, shame it's been taken out of rotation atm) and let's assume it's the full release with all 13 mission. So far they've only ever had 4 missions in any given rotation. That means that if I log in one day, there's only a 27.4% chance of me actually being able to play the Dust mission. That means if I only really feel like playing an outside map like that then there's a 72.6% chance of me being ♥♥♥♥ outta luck.

This basically means that days could go by and I wouldn't be able to play the map I actually want to. I'm not gonna bother to organize time with friends, boot up the game, and check which maps are in rotation right now every single day, instead I'm just gonna give up and stop playing because most of the time I can't even play what I want to play. This would be like playing Vermintide, being in the mood to run the Drachenfels missions, but it turns out I can't play any of them the first day I log on, then I come back the next and I can only play the third mission, then 3 days go by with no Drachenfels missions, then I get the first one, then another 2 days go by, then I can play the third one again but the second still hasn't come back.

DRG maps are randomly generated, the map rotation there just conceals that fact with a fancy menu. All you get from DRG's map rotation are slightly different environmental effects.

Darktide maps are a lazy reassembly of assets. Out of the 7 maps I've played in the game so far, I couldn't tell 4 of them apart until we got to the objective simply because they reuse the exact same map chunks in a slightly different layout.
