As for Veteran class, Best range weapons can differ depending on team needs. Bolter tend to fall off when you have Psy or Orgryns in your team. If you have a team mostly of Vets, and Zealots then one Vet with a Bolter be handy for the enemy Orgryns.
Also, Bolter ammo is exceedingly rare for anyone outside of the proper circles to acquire it. The Mechanicum does not like giving bolters or bolt weapons really to anyone outside of the most protected or prestigious and deserving. (SM's, SoB, Various nobles/officers) It's a miracle your inquisitor was even able to 'requisition' enough bolters to hand out to a bunch of his reject agents to begin with.
It makes sense from a lore perspective that the ammo you'd find and mag capacity of your weapon would be low to compensate for this. And lastly, in my experience the Bolter is pretty strong damage wise. Just like the Stubpistol and Shotgun which are also ammo starved. If they gave you too much ammo it would trivialize alot of encounters from a gameplay perspective.
The fact that you can melt EVERYTHING with it is just ridiculous.
And im talking about dif5 when you melt 2-3 elites in a single salvo
Is why both the gun and ammo and both sized down. They're not 'Rare' for other branches, not standard just not given to line troops. Most commissars have bolt pistols, as do many officers. For the inquisition's limitless powers, who also have the Death Watch and Grey Knights I doubt bolter ammo is light on the ground.
That sounds like heresy to me. Someone get the commissar!
Not paired it with my power sword yet and was thinking that may be a good try.
Thanks for the suggestion :)
Plasma gun has been very underwhelming so far. Lower kill-time compared to a bolter and you have to worry about overheating and it ending up killing you. Maybe I've just been using it wrong, but I've had way more fun and a faster time with killing enemies with the bolter.
-Pierces Carapace
-Extremely high charge shot damage + headshot + volley fire ability
-High ammo capacity
-Fast swap time
-Fast reload
-Can half-charge for flak instead of full charge for big bois.
Only fails at horde + shield, but hey you have a melee weapon right?
My complain is that the weapon is just soo strong that basically invalidates every other weapon.
Why gimp yourself with flashlight or pewpew guns when you can deliver rocket propelled doom on demand?
