Enemy Hit Mass
Can anyone tell me what it is? I have a hammer that does "-30% enemy hit mass for .5 seconds on kill. Stacks 5 times." Cant find anything on it. Never heard of it before. Thanks

Ah, yes... for what is a game without an exceedingly generous assortment of arcane and inscrutable terms, describing little buffs and debuffs and sundry other effects of such dubious utility that one wonders why they even exist... though, of course, one also wonders if they might secretly hold some wondrous power, unguessed by those of us still confounded by the terminology.

Perhaps, one day, we will be granted guidance by the Emperor as to precisely what the puck any of this stuff even is!

Hit Mass has to do with cleave. Each weapon can cleave through a certain amount of Hit Mass until the attack stops on an enemy. So if you have a way to lower a targets it Hit Mass or ignore it all together, you have the ability to hit more enemies with your attacks per swing.

Smaller lighter enemies have lower Hit Mass which is why you can cleave a lot more Pox Walkers than you can hitting a group of Crushers or Bulwark shields.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe it basically allows you to cleave through more enemies. I remember seeing a post way back about it and someone explained it as something like: If you have a crusher and poxwalkers, your hit will stop at the crusher. But with enemy hit mass it'll hit both crusher and poxwalkers.

Idk if it's changed at all since then cause the post was quite awhile ago from what I remember.

Also just realized this thread was posted in 2022 lmao. Probably already knows what it does now.

cleave = amount of mass your attack goes through before stopping
different weapons and different attacks on those weapons have varying amounts of cleave

and different enemies have different mass, as people have already said, so expect lower tier basic enemies to have less mass than elites and specials

buffs that increase your cleave will do just that, which allows you to cleave through more enemies

some buffs instead apply a multiplier to the mass of enemies being hit, which basically has the same result as directly increasing cleave, why does the game use both kinds? who knows!

also order of hitting enemies matters

i.e if you have three enemies with this configuration side by side:

mauler-poxwalker-poxwalker

and you swing with an attack that can cleave through 2 poxwalkers but cant cleave through a mauler than a right to left swing will hit all 3 but a lef to right swing will only hit the mauler

It allows you to cleave through more enemies, but with little to no damage.
