Combat Shotgun feels very weak.
It's a fairly weak weapon. Got a really nice roll on the one I bought from the shop with a very high damage roll (roughly 80% damage bar), but even just on Malice difficulty it just.. doesn't perform well at all.

Bad for specials (a shot to the head on a hound, plus two body shots and it doesn't die on Malice? Yikes)

Bad for wave clear

Bad for armor (makes sense)

Bad for.. everything. Aside from the "Make Every Shot Count" penance for Sharpshooter - but even then, do missed pellets count as misses? Or does hitting multiple enemies count for over 100% accuracy? Don't know, because you're severely gimping yourself and the team by using the weapon.

Definitely feels like it needs some overall damage buffs to be a viable option. Perhaps give it higher penetration to hit numerous enemies in a row and high stagger. I think that would make more sense than just arbitrarily boosting damage.

What's everyone else's thoughts?

EDIT: after doing some tests in the Meat Grinder I realized it DOES have insane amounts of stagger. Even capable of staggering Crushers a bit, and knocking down Maulers on headshots.

I dont think we are talking pellets here, feels like a slug shotgun.

And btw it is GREAT. Just need to hit the heads. It provides stagger and reliable damage at 30-40m range which is insane. It feels more like a rifle than a shotgun, if i want to be honest. I played a master-crafted version in the CB in damnation and i was satisfied with it. Not there yet in the pre-launch, but im pretty sure ill pick a master-crafted shotgun again as a basline before experimenting with other stuff.

And no, you shouldnt use it for wave clear.

I honestly think the Combat Shotgun is overpowered. It kills normal enemies in a single shot to the chest, can kill many elites in a shot or two to the head, and has a deceptively long range. I've killed snipers from across the room using it.

It also has a special where you load a super shell, increasing the damage and stagger to ridiculous degrees. Pretty much anything you shoot shy of an Ogryn will stumble or fall to the ground when hit by it, if it doesn't explode their whole torso.

The only real downsides it has are bad performance against armor and a long reload time (though with the benefit of being able to interrupt it at any time).

It was really powerful in the previous Beta. now it feels like they beat it to death with the nerf stick.

Nothing works good on those heavy armor ogaryns, they are practically bullet and flame proof. Only melee good for them. The shotgun is useless purely because of its low ammo count, just like the revolver pistol thing

Good to know, will try this kit.

Thanks, Lad.

I think we're talking about two different shotguns here. My apologies for the confusion, but I'm talking about the shotgun for Sharpshooter (possibly other classes, but that's all I've used it on) - it definitely shoots a spread of 13 pellets - counted from a wall shot in the Meat Grinder. It feels very weak since the last beta. I mained it then because it was very strong. Too strong, honestly.

Bolters shred every enemy in this game, but it's slow to reload, slow to ready, and chews through ammo fast. It even has a tiny AoE radius so you can effectively use it for wave clear.
