Is combat still floaty and lacking in weight like vermintide?
I hated vermintide, the melee combat was just meh for a melee focused game.

Anyone that has played both vermintide and this, (playtest) can you tell me if melee combat is meh.

Dying light 1 melee combat is what I am looking for, weapons felt weighty and dangerous. Vermintide was like slicing a knife through butter, the dismemberment was out of sync etc, it just felt awful.

having played both vermintide and Dying Light I gotta say I prefer vermintide's melee feel. yes, Dying light certainly was a bit more visceral, but you cant have that slow punchy melee whens there is 300 enemies on screen directly in your face. Vermintide captures frantic fast paced melee action better than any other game I have ever played. I'm not even good enough to play consistently on the higher difficulties and I have still put in well over 1000 hours across multiple platforms on Fathsarks melee systems. You should give it another chance, I really hope they don't change a thing

Now imagine every enemy in the game is a night hunter, there are 60 of them on the screen, you can't run away from them, you can't hide anywhere, they are everywhere, and watch as they stuff that satisfying slow "weighty" combat up your crack.
It simply doesn't work in the genre, don't like Vermintide kind of combat - don't look into horde slashers/shooters. Dying Light style only works when your enemies can be counted on the fingers of one hand.

If you are simply looking at weapons that you can feel the impact of... I don't know how you missed chainsword ripping enemy in half or thunder hammer blasting the air out of heretics lungs yet, it's still Vermintide melee, but not every weapon is aimed to fight a single enemy where that weapon "weight" is possible, some of them have to be like a rubber dildo because otherwise you won't cut 2-7 enemies in one hit and be ripped to shreds.

Vermintide 2's combat felt good to me, the weapons felt impactful. I don't get what you mean, but it is likely that the combat will feel the same if that is how you felt.

melee in vermintide is not 'weighty'? different kinds of weapons play different
BeelzebubSips 22 AGO 2022 a las 8:23
Dying Light is NOT a horde hack and slash. The only reason it feels "weighty" is because your weapon stops on a single (or rarely 2) zombie. Very rarely do you crowd control a massive amount of enemies.

I don't really think combat is terrible but it's not great either. There were times were I perfect dodged backwards and rats still hit me even though their spears were 1-2 meters away from me.

Games like Elden Ring or Dark Souls didn't have such issues ( maybe some bad hitboxes and hyper active bosses but overall it was player skill that decided the success ).

Vermintide 1 and 2 can stack hordes of enemies where blocking pretty much is a necessity as dodging will result in taking damage at times. They should give physical space for each rat so there is a limit how many can stack up in front of the player. That's all i'm saying. It's not bad but not really great either.

you're talking about it as if it's inconsistent. experienced vt players can fight hordes all day long without getting hit.

V2 does not have "Floaty" combat

You should never back-dodge against trash, they have particularly quick chasing attacks specifically designed to counter unending backdodges, otherwise you would just be able to disengage combat for free.

Why don't you just do both block and dodge, mix block pushes into the mix as well. If you use only one of the tools at your disposal you "WILL" die. Use all of them constantly, at once, or interchangeably.

A lot of people also miss the part that every next dodge is shorter, so if you dodge too often without a pause you will run out of them fast and be killed.

There's sprinting and sliding so hopefully it will be good
