Finally a 40k game from the perspective of the lowly imperial guard
Don't get me wrong, I love space marines as much as the next guy, but it's really hard to get across just how brutal the 40k universe is from the eyes of a superpowered hulk in nearly indestructible power armor.

As a guardsman, you might get the chance to experience just how threatening the creatures you've plowed through as a space marine can be when you're just human. Not to mention you might also get a sense of how insanely overpowered even a single space marine is. Imagine facing off against a single chaos space marine as these four guardsmen... I personally don't like their odds, and I love that.

I've heard some people complain that you might play as guardsmen in Darktide, but I welcome a more grounded perspective. We've had the power fantasy already with games like Space Marine by THQ... now we get to experience what it's like to be the prey.

question is how squishy will u b? a single lasbolt could easily kill a guardsmen let alone that horde of filthy chaos cultists (?)

Since it's a video game, I imagine you'll be pretty overpowered as far as guardsmen go, but still a far cry away from the god-like powers a space marine would have. Basically, you'll be a squad of four Sly Marbos. :)

how about 4 try-again-braggs?

Honestly, I doubt you'll be playing as a group of guardsmen. I think it's more likely you'll be playing as characters from an inquisitor's warband. Either way I think I'm happy to just get a "tide" game in 40k.

I dont think it's just going to be guardsmen but i do agree the perspective is nice.

looks like he has not come up in this thread, the "Announcing 'Warhammer 40,000: Darktide" on the Vermintide 2 page said

"With all that said, and with heaps more details to come as we move through development, all that’s left is to welcome you to Atoma Prime, convict. The Emperor protects."

the important part is "convict" from that we can guess what we will be playing

I think the protagonist classes are probably all going to be kasrkins at least. I just can't imagine any commander sending basic infantry into such a death gauntlet. That said, I predict the players are probably going to have a fair bit of additional armor, just not quite space marine level. also i don't know if those were cultists in the trailer, there might be an organized chaos effort behind the infestation but those just look like rabid mutants (basically zombies) to me, no guns.

yeah but keep in mind its a recon mission, not an all out attack and they arent being sent in with comms for some reason. The narrator of the trailer needs intel, so they need at least one of them to survive to tell the tale for the mission to be a success.

Vox casters are not great at comunications deep in a hive as it looks like the game will takes place in

As for the one needs to survive, its likely more than one team as sent, convicts are very cheap to send to death

Not so fast there.

You are forgetting that Imperial Guard Stormtroopers wear the relatively decent 'carapace armor,' while Inquisitorial Stormtroopers have very decent armor of their own.

Not only that but Power Armor exists for non-Space Marines such as the Sisters of Battle, and Inquisitors have their own version of power armor such as Ignatius Armor.

the question is what are we playing as? yes you make a good point as to the armor of the various troopers. storm troopers are armoured well, doesnt mean a bolter round will be stopped. or a rusted nasty axe by a nurgle cultist. got to wait and see. i see they do mention the Inquisition in the description so i expect we arent going in with nothing but our recaff and a a simple guards uniform

Don`t like the idea.
It should be SM that can go solo against lots of enemies. I hardly can imagine 4 guardsmen fighting boss with great unclean one.
Custodes would also be great. Eldar aspect warriors but not guardsmen or storm troopers / karskins etc.

well then frankly you have plenty of games to choose from that let you live out that power fantasy. Go play any of those ones. I personally welcome something new that hasn't been done to death.

Custodes? O_o Custodes literally have not left Earth for 10,000 years. They guard the Imperial Palace - not even Terra itself, strictly the Imperial Palace.

And as someone else pointed out, you have plenty of Space Marine games to choose from.

The rest of us are hyped to play as Guardsmen.
