Same Engine?
Did they mention that they are most likely using the same engine? If so I sure hope i dont have to fight for frames so much during hoards again.

No, ofc not. Your game will just crash on startup, don't worry

Almost, they said it will be upgraded Vermintide 2 enigene. In addition we have melee focus (in game about astra militarum), so Darktide seems to be just Vermintide 2 reskin.

All they said is that melee will still play a big part. "Big part" =/= "focus".
And the game being "about Astra Militarum" doesn't mean anything. Ogryns are AM. Armageddon Ork Hunters are AM. Do they suck in melee? Give a Kriegsman a shovel, see what happens.

Still,AM is more about range combat, rather melee

And still, same engine, that almost definetely will have bugs with textures, bugs with enemies, bugs with hitreg, a lot of performance issues, and of course very avarege graphics. And, certainly, they won`t give us dedicated servers, so we will have a lot of connection problems in p2p.

They are using the same engine and I get that is means a faster development time but in the long run will it hold the game back? Two concerns I have:

1. Will it have the same problems as V2, for example will the group lose all progress if the host leaves? Probably, this has been an issue since V1 and has never been addressed by the devs.

2. Will it have cross play? Cross play is fast becoming popular now and by the time Dark Tide is released I think all platforms will expect it. Two games I play, Dead by Daylight and World War Z, have benefited greatly from crossplay. How hard would it be for FS to implement this into their engine? I would think it is too much of a task for them and all of that work is already done in engines like Unreal and free to put into your game if you use that engine.

Didn't that fix that problem? Idk if it's because im playing recently with only 150 hours but i have yet to encounter a host leaving and losing all our progress. It usually migrates to another host does it not?

Also crossplay would be a great idea I feel as long as they give the option to turn it on and off. Darktide wont seem like the game for me to care but i do like playing with pc players or console players only in some games.

Well, honestly host migrates, but you have to start new run, because it is not real host migration, it`s rather creating of new lobby with new host and auto-join by everyone in current lobby, so if host leaves game at the very end near portal you will lose last 20 minutes of ur gameplay.

ooohh yes okay i understand now I've definitely seen the run restart usually when everyone dies. Im guesisng that was the host raging out. Although i guess ive been lucky that they dont leave at the very very end.

You get onscreen dialogue that the host is migrating but when that process completes you either end up restarting the mission or back at the keep, with a new host. I think the onscreen dialogue is a relic of when dedicated servers were on the road map.

holy śhit, they are using the same engine that even the developer of this engine already abandoned... it had numerous issues back then and wont be any different now, vermintide was good game at its core with absolutely worst post release management and design decisions ive ever seen, one thing is certain though, fatshark will never learn from its mistakes, that we can count on

Except FS ARE the developers of this engine lol.

Originally it was called BitSquid before Autodesk bought it out in hopes of somehow squeezing yet another "big" engine between UE4, Unity and Cryengine to expected results.

well all ik from 30 years gaming is that a few engines have surprised me a lot with what they can be upgraded to

for example the source engine maybe my favorite engine of all times (yeah ik the frostbite engine) just look at black mesa and day of infamy unbelieveable

the unreal3 engine i think i dont have to say anthing about that countless good old classic games use this engine and still some modders use them for their projects with stunning examples

the engine of titan quest dont know the name but what the guys from grim dawn did with it is outstanding no doubt

i bet there are many other examples wich prove that old engine does not mean old visuals or old problems but ofc it can sure lets hope its not the case here :)
why make a game that costs twice as much.. when you can use the same crap engine.. save time , an effort.. an get twice the profits from beating that dead horse =) fatshark.. its HOW THEY ROLL! heh
