Whats your best tip/trick?
Ive come across some great tips and tricks reading through the forums and watching some videos. Im wondering what others consider their best.

For me, there are two.
1) When you down an animal and need to go for a cart, shoot an arrow into the ground next to the animal so you can find your way back. (Someone had posted it as a tip and it works great!)

2) I put stone crates next to the extractors in the caves. I sort the stones into the crate. When it is full, I swap it out for an empty on off my cart. This way im not wasting space in my boxes with stones.

Make Rations your primary food source since they will fill all food bars and also have the best stat buffs. Eat before drinking as it will also add to your water bar.

Hit the villages as early as possible... great stuff there to help you get a jump-start.

Also, hunt crocs in the winter when the water is frozen.

I love to be able to access my mineral extractors from my forge room. So I always place my brick forges between windows and place mineral extractors outside in front of the windows. I do this with oil extractors, too. I can stand next to the forge and reach through the window to empty the extractors. Ever since we can only mine ore in caves, I have an additional incentive to build bases in caves. I can go to any of my caves in the middle of winter and if a blizzard strikes, I can empty my extractors while staying warm and toasty inside.

My greatest fear in this game is that at some point windows without glass will prevent a base from heating. I do enclose my outdoor extractors with walls, but there is no foundation under them and I don't know what effect that would have on the heating situation.

In the earlier releases of the game, the crocodiles were submerged in the water, and being there in winter prevented them from hiding.
Now it is not really necessary to do it in winter anymore. But maybe it's still easier to hunt them in winter.

If this would happen, I hope the windows will be changed to allow us to open them. We gotta have that fresh breeze during the spring cleaning :steamhappy:

Im going to add to my post here. I built a Hunting/Fishing cabin (4x4) out by the fishing lake. I put a bed, fire pit, butcher table, and 4 drying racks in it.

When you dry the fish whole on the drying rack it is good for 16+ hours. When you take it off the rack and harvest it, it resets the timer so you get another 16+ hours on the dried fish pieces. I fill the racks, then harvist the dried fish, followed by filling the racks again before leaving. This means that the time on the fish pieces I have stored in a crate is about the same as the time on the fish hanging on the drying racks.
Did this in Oct/Nov and last winter was down to the last 5 pieces of fish and had 2 hr left on the timer. Ran out and harvested the ones on the rack to refill the crate with new pieces that had a 16+ hours time them. Easily made it through winter with them.

I have tons of tips and tricks I use, but these are the ones I'll share.

First, after I find the village with the truck, I open the Snipit tool on windows and take a snapshot of the village to remember to go back and grab the truck.

I hit the villages immediately as others have stated and find Mike as quickly as possible. Grab a cart with 2 chests, hit as many villages as you can. Don't be afraid to drink tainted water and use small medkits you find in villages to regain your health.

Final trick I use which would be frowned upon I am betting...I use Cheat Engine to speed up the game and get to the villages faster using the Speed Hack.

You can also place the ghost image of a log cart next to it. You don't even need to complete is for it to show the marker on the map.

I feel like using a cheat in a single player game isn't really bad. You're not gaining an advantage over other players.
