Mike's job filling log stands
Way back when (release 13?) Mike used to fill log stands anywhere on the map, but he isn't doing it any more. I wonder if the change came with the change to the larger map. I'm currently building a desert base not far from my main base and I hoped to have Mike show up to help out, but he didn't. Is the size of the map to blame?

Have you tried only giving Mike one task "Fill log stands"? maybe other things get in the way, like watering the garden, so no time to travel?

Maybe worth a try, then obviously give him some time to travel/walk there, you can just follow him around, you can see if this works fairly fast, as he will soon start making his way towards your new base and you would be able to see him walking that way etc. given there are no log stands to fill closer first.
Also, if that doesn't work, I seen info on Mike filling your stone crates, he can do it if there are boulders within 25k unreal units away from his house, maybe that is the issue with the log stands? maybe he can only reach log stands within that distance? but I'm not sure.

Also what exactly is "25k unreal units", it would be nice to know exactly, from the vague info I see online, 100k is 1 kilometre in unreal, but this can maybe vary from game to game, some more info about this and your issue would be nice.
So if that is the case, then 25K unreal units would be 250 meters? About 200 steps for the character. To find that distance in my game I stood on top of mikes house and shot crossbow bolts to in different directions to find "the range" one bolt at 280 meters took 213 "steps" to get to it.

Now this is trying to apply some sort of logic, so it may be totally flawed. But if the loose info you heard is correct:
100,000 units = 1,000 meters
quarter that.
25,000 units = 250 meters.

If someone can confirm the Units to Meters we could get better numbers.
So short answer, you may need to build a second "Mikes house". and possibly even a second town hall. if he only operates in 250 meter range of his house.
If you try this, make sure his only task is fill log stands and make sure all the stands at your main base are already full.
I'm guessing here, but if you have that second base and a second Mikes house, I would think you could recall him between the two bases then.

Thanks, this is interesting - I didn't realize you could even build a second "Mike's house". What I do know is that it isn't worth collecting tons of wood to build a second Mike's house at this stage because my base in the desert is almost done. It also doesn't need much wood because it is a sandstone structure. I'm near the edge of the desert, so there are plenty of trees in the near vicinity to chop down.
Another thing people don't think about (or didn't try) the red truck can carry more logs than the cart can. if you only need logs.

I did the same thing on my base. the main building is all sandstone, near a desert, small POI and cave. I'm curious if we built in the same area.

I don't think we built in the same place. My main base is on the road downhill from the apartment POI and extends into the river. On the other side of the river there is a cave. I have always built my bases there on this map because there is water, a cave and it is centrally located. After a long absence from the game, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the apartment POI had been added nearby. To get to the nearest trader I have to drive through a desert to the NE so I built my desert base right at the beginning of that desert. It is within view of the tiny POI where there is a small red house on an intersection. There is no water or cave nearby.
