Where do I connect power to things?
Looking for something to actually wire up my power from and to, ie a water house ot oil pump.... or even a fridge. I have the upgrade hammer, but wires won't show around the items. I only want to power one thing atm, should just be a direct line from power source to the device.

There are some great guides for electrical set up in this game. Basic overview is that You need to have a source of power, wind turbine or solar panel. You then need to have a control panel and run the wiring to a junction box, and then to the item you are powering.

As you move it around, the wire will snap to a location and turn green. Often times the snap point is low on the object and at the back.

Not every "Machine" is elecrical, some need fuel,
You need wires in the inventory and the hammer as active tool in your hand.
You work down from the mainbox (That manages all energy soucres) over the smaller one (´s that allow to Group your assets and have a switch) (to Relais if necessary) to your assets. The switches if wished are connected to the smaller wireboxes

Dont try to hit the connector of a asset, you can aim for the assets themself to wire them

A great bit of added advice and the help is very much appreciated! But in my experience, the player does need for the wire to snap and turn green. Though it has become easier to snap, recently, if the wire does not snap and turn green, a connection will not be made when pressing E. There are some situations when aiming will be necessary.

In the end, It sounds like the issue is that the player was trying to wire directly from a source (panel or turbine) to a power consumer. And that will not work as described by florianemory.

The scientific side of my brain just exploded... I guess physics works differently in this game.

The power sources and batteries need no wires, they all have "wifi" to the Main box, from there you need wires

So its mostly realistic, its just that you need no wires for the Energy produce and storing stuff

Still, I can't link, say, a generator directly to a light.

True, a portable generator should work that way. I never used the generator and am surprised it doesn't work that way. The generator should be an early game feature that can use biofuel to run. That is what was requested but it's not quite what we received. It would be more useful in that sense AND should be able to wire directly to a power consumer. An unfortunate miss by the dev IMO. If I recall correctly from other comments here and/or on Discord, it only runs on gas and does not run for very long.

Just tested and this is all true. I will go ahead and make a request about the gas generator. Not sure about how quickly it consumes gas, though.
