Share your Winning Legend Build V1.4.0
In memory of a past thread ( Share your winning Game+++++ build), I thought I would start a place were we can share our winning Legend Builds. As before both old god wins and Portal Boss wins are accepted (just make sure to state which one). Screenshots are encouraged.

--------

I decided to try a Xandos III supported by armor units team build. It took a few tries to get past the early game. The first floor has the hardest fights until the old god. Until you have enough gold for Xandos III to be the primary damage source, and enough units to tank for him, most battles are narrowly won.

This was my third attempt running Xandos III with an armor support build. It was the first to make it to the old god. If I had 9 more gold (this would have brought Xandos III damage up to 20, allowing him to one shot many of the demons), I may have been able to win. However, the units did not have a way to heal and not enough armor to tank for long, so I do not think I could have survived the Portal Bosses.

Note: Steam only displays so many screenshots per post, so I split my post into two.

For the forth attempt, the random starting unit was a Tanner. This greatly assisted with the early fights (both due to the unit's 2 damage and the gold added every round). On the second floor, I purchased a Noble Plate and equiped it on the Tanner. This way, if he was not able to get a kill he could at least generate gold while blocking. At the begining of the third floor, I swapped out the Tanner for a second Royal Captain (Xandos III is a King after all. It only makes sense that he should have two Royal Captains as body gaurds). With the second Royal Captain the shield wall was complete. At this point, I only lost a Royal Captain when I wanted the extra gold from the Noble Plate. I did not wait to fight the Aurum Worm as Xandos III would end the fights too quickly, so I could not farm gold that way.

This was by far the easiest portal fights yet. It takes luck in the early game and with the artifacts. Royal Insignia and Edric's Boots are a requirement. I started with the Royal Insignia. I had to reroll for Edric's boots after the third floor boss fight. The Smith's Hammer is the next most important. The Arbiter's Blade is great, but not a requirement (I could have won without it).

If you manage to buy the new Death item on the first floor (before first transform) and fight 4 times the Death boss, it would have given a nice score and also 8 gold each time, so 32 more gold ^^ (33 if you just sell the last death item which is useless then). But you must have a comp that can kill it early.

I'm currently planifying how I will try to get a good score with the Death Boon, and I've thought of Xandos. But the early game is really difficult (the very first fight is sometimes impossible ^^, not to mention the new Wolf boss, summoning units, I got him with chests in front and I couldn't do enough damage to counter his summons each turn).

Basically, either I do a stalling comp to get the Aurm Worms, and I can't have truly inexaustible units, either I try to just do a lot of damage fast and still have enough sustain for the late fights. I've tried to start with the regular Xandos and transform him later with a lot of gold, but I don't think it's possible as I'm under the impression that the transform potion does Regular Xandos > Special Xandos > Regular Xandos, without going to Gold Xandos.

Why don't you have the Gold ring by the way (-5 HP for Xandos, +3 Gold per battle)?

My latest win was a beast comp: Ursa Divine Bear, Sun Horn, Ember Blood and Hellion with Dominique Heal and a lot of armor rings / the +1 armor artifact (it's a staple for me). It was around 2900 because I spent a lot of turn killing Aurum worms and buying armor rings (and no Death killed). Started with Eldric Boots (wasn't aiming for anything in particular, this artifact didn't do much overall this game) Armorsmith, Ember Blood and Sun Horn (and a Follower).

I'll try to do a score run soon, but I've not yet settled on how I'll achieve it. I'm currently exploring the viability of the Wrath Conduit, Asmodeus, Sanguinist, Haruspex (early) and/or the duplicate potion; separately.

Since I had not beaten Legend yet, I did not want to push it and try for the Death boss. The first fight would be difficult, given you are trading 2 damage for the item. That said, I may have to try that.

There are some bosses that I avoid if at all possible. The Wolf Boss you mentioned is one of them. I think that is why one of my earlier attempts failed.

This is hard to even test given that you cannot re-roll potions. I wanted to see if you could transform the Slime Heroes and I have yet to see a transform potion. Not sure if it is coded out, or if I have just been unlucky.

I blame my baby boy for lack of sleep. I thought it was the following ring:

Battle Start: Take 1 damage and gain 3 gold.

As I had no way to heal, I ignored it. Had I read it correctly, I would have taken the ring rather than sell it for one gold. Even if it was the ring I thought, I could have equipped it until I was at 1 health, for additional gold. I will not make that mistake on future runs.

I have only run a Beast build once, and that was to get Animara. I do not recall if I died against the Third Floor boss, or the old god. I have been interested in an Ursa Divine Bear build, but have not had the time to try it yet. Dominique is a good Hero for them.

PS: Thanks for keeping the The Dungeon Beneath Compendium up to date.

You're actually right about the ring ! I should probably add it to the description in the compendium.

Only thing that might have worked is giving the +4 armor battle start ring to Xandos aswell (and place it before the gold ring), but I don't know if you had it by then, and I don't know how important it is to leave on the Armored Knight (the 4x2 damage keeper fight need someone at 8+ health first round, that's 10 with the Death Boon).

I had yet to note the order of interactions of items; I had not yet had a reason to do so. See, this is why I like discussions about the game, there are always little details to learn. Not sure how it would have worked out. Having the +4 armor on the Knight at the start of a fight was very useful, but I think I could have made due until the old god.

Score 7044 with the Death Boon and all Upgrades used on the Ankh.
I made sure not to use the bug that gives an additional slot with the Death Boon.
I tried to get a similar comp than Hungry's, but ultimately I got no luck and this score can surely be improved. The earliest you can snowball Xandos, the better. I couldn't start snowballing until Floor 3.

Floor 1 was challenging (I had to retry a lot the first fight even). Got a necrotic ring out of a chest, which felt fine, and I had to revisit a campfire as I was unable to get 2 good units at the first one. Aguatilis is really strong to snipe bosses, I can't remember if I started with Aguatilis or Armorsmith, but I recruited the other at the first campfire. Hypogean came later. Started with the gold artifact (my idea was that the Royal Insignia wasn't impactful early game until Xandos got damage, so I tried Bathin first).

I HAD to buy the portal key (obviously) the golden key aswell, because the Golden Ring and the Drake encounter need it (it's a lot of gold). So I lost a lot of gold initially. I also bought a Void Fury Ring just before the Floor Boss, because it was necessary and I thought it was a nice addition if I met the Eye bosses on floor 2, and maybe later the Death Boss (wasn't really useful of the Death Boss but saved a little bit of damage so it went quicker).

Aguatilis with the Void Rufy Ring did the damage for the first boss, while Armorsmith and Hypogean tanked. Got the Eldric Boots out of it (took 4 rerolls to get it).

Floor 2 was quite tough aswell. As I felt quite weak (didn't find Noble Plate, the 2 Gold / death item early, so it was a slog until then), I couldn't buy an Ankh so I had to upgrade the Portal Key immediately and skip on the Smuggler Ring. I recruited the Royal Captain and a Praexator because I wanted to try Hungry's luck and find a duplicate potion at the Floor 3. With 3x2 damage per round on Xandos, which is not great, the boss was easy enough.

I HAD to buy an Ankh for the first upgrade of floor 3 AND something to give me armor for the Golden Ring. I got a Chain Mail +2 health -1 speed (Human) from the random chest, which wasn't great at all.
Got the Armor Artifact with just two rerolls, which was great because I only had 20 gold.

Of note, the Ankh will break if you get a "lethal" attack, without considering armor. If you get an attack of 1 and you only have 1 HP left but 10 armor, the Ankh will break. I had to remove the Necrotic ring and THANKS GOD I bought armored gloves for 8 gold instead of a 4 armor ring. The additional Health madeti so I didn't lose the Ankh with the golden ring.

Floor 3 was way easier, but to be sure I bought 2 armor rings and 2 gold plate (human) just before the boss, and I recruited the first armor comp I saw before the Golden Dragon.

I got no luck with the duplication potion for the Royal Captain, and I was hoping for the Javelineer but not luck aswell.

Starting the 3rd floor boss, I had to make sure my Armorsmith would die when convenient for the Golden Armors (2 this boss). I didn't have any beforehand.

I got the Amguan artifact, I rerolled once and it wasn't really amazing. Was hoping for the Atk and Speed hero artifact but most artifact wouldn't make much difference at this point I thought.
I bought a 3rd Golden plate and moved on to the Old God.

Holy .... this fight was hard! I should have chosen another God because Abbadon is probably the worst. I lost a lot of damage to his minion, and I had to play slowly and very safe.
I think I should have gone with Nazzatoth instead. I chose Abbadon because I was afraid of the Affliction debuff, but honestly it would have gone way faster and I think dealing with the afflictions would have been easier than dealing with the curses.

I noticed that even if I don't see it there are items behind the "white" background, so I got a bit of gold and another armor artifact. It's the first time I notice it (I was paying extra attention after spending so much time on this boss, didn't want to do fail and do everything again).

On the way to the Final boss, I met the Death a few times and it went down really fast. I had to make sure my Armosmith died. Same thing for the double-attacks Keepers. The Armored Knight had a +4 armor at battle start and 2 armor rings, which helped him tank during the few rounds the Keeper was alive.

Final comp:

The Hero

That is an awesome write up. Congratulations on the win and high score!

I wish there was a refresh option on the Witch. I had to play 5 times before I found a transformation potion for the Lost Adventurer. Paying to refresh would have made that test go much quicker. There are also a lot of potions that I like. I think the idea was to limit how many potions you can buy, but I wish it was easier to select one that you need.

I hate affliction, as it is both the only status for which there is no immunity, and it negates many builds. That said, I almost always choose to fight Illifar, as I find the fight more predictable.

It always bugged me that there was no reward for the old gods. I even thought there was one once, but did not see it on future runs, so assumed that I must have remembered incorrectly.

Congratulations!
And Fantastic score! I guessed around 6K with Bonuses.

I had a Doom Team last night I thought could go the distance on a Legend Death Run.
Although the Team came together with some good luck, my shop rolls were TERRIBLE.
I could not find any doom items.
As such, I could not out-damage or out-heal the Gold Dragon.

I didnt notice the White Screen Items until I started Legend Runs.
My Mouse just happened to be hovering over a potion.

Just wanted to say that this is all super impressive! Amazing to see people playing The Dungeon Beneath at such a high level.

For the "god" rewards being hidden behind the white background, that sounds like a bug! I'll take a look at that.

I really like reading these c:
I still can barely win on NG+, to the extent that I think I've only actually finished the Portals once so far.

It is amazing that one can get so good to be beating it on so much higher of a difficulty.

I have beaten all 3 of the normal bosses on all difficulties NG+ through NG++++ but am having a really difficult time in NG+++++. Thanks for the inspiration!

Closed the portal on Legend the other day with a Xandos III (+damage for gold) armor-based team - Armorsmith, Steel Summoner, Immortal, and Royal Captain. It went quite smoothly; Xandos is nutty. I did have to reroll a lot for the +1 armor every time you apply armor relic, though, which hurt my damage some for a while, but by the end it was back very high.

I think I'm gonna try to beat Legend with every hero, at least, now that the game keeps track of it. Probably not gonna do any score pushing, just beat the god. Today I beat it with a Dominique healing-based team that wasn't as smooth as a lot of my past hope-based runs, but it worked. My team:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3036211195

The only particularly important items are visible in the screenshot; everything else is mostly just a few stats here and there. Pairing beasts and healing seemed like a natural combination, and it worked out okay, but I feel like I've had a lot smoother hope runs in the past. Going something more pure, like a Lyra and High Priestess instead of the beasts, I feel like would've worked better. Or at least Lyra instead of the Juggernaut.

No, it is fitting to start a new one for the new Patch. The score mechanic is totally different now ^^
